St Kierans club notes

July 20, 2021

St. Kieran’s GAA:

Limerick Minor Footballers:

Best wishes to Craig MacInnes who starts in goals and Lorcan Murphy who lines out at right half back of the Limerick minor footballers who take on Tipperary this evening in the opening round of the Munster MFC in the Gaelic Grounds at 7.30. It is great to see two more of our minor players be selected for the county panel and it is testament to all of the hard work that is going in at underage level by all of our coaches.

West Junior ‘A’ Hurling League Play-off

St. Kieran’s 0.17 Askeaton 1.11

The junior hurlers advanced to the West League final on Saturday evening last with a hard fought and deserved win over Askeaton. Once again without the services of a number of first team regulars due to injury we took to the field with a very youthful side. Our chances were aided with the return of Paudie McCarthy from injury to the full back line and his presence had a profound effect on our fortunes. We led 0.5 to 0.3 at the first water break but our chances took a major dent when we were reduced to 14 men following the dismissal of centre forward Billy Breen. Eoin McEnery kept our tally ticking over with a number of excellent scores while Anthony Mullins hit a rich vein of form scoring three quick points in succession. At half time we led by two points against an Askeaton side determined to reverse the result from our previous encounter in the group phase. Further scores came from McEnery and newly introduced Johnny McCarthy in the second half to keep our lead intact. The numbers were evened up when Askeaton had a man dismissed midway through the second period which gave us a huge opportunity to push on for the win. At the final whistle we emerged victorious with a three-point victory and now move on to face Rathkeale this Friday evening for a chance to win our first piece of silverware of the season. The manner of the league performances so far has been extremely pleasing with so many younger players getting the opportunity to cut their teeth at this level and so far, it is evident that they have the ability to do so. Rathkeale will provide opposition this Friday evening in Feenagh. Both sides met in round 3 of the competition in the Bog Garden on that occasion it was the home side who took the spoils following our second game in three days. Hopefully, this Friday night the lads can put in another strong performances and maintain this period of momentum and bring home the cup. Friday’s game throws in at 7.30 in Feenagh.
