Gortletteragh club notes

Intermediates:

Last Sunday afternoon in Avantcard Páirc Seán we took on St Patrick’s of Dromahair in the Smith Monumentals Intermediate semi-final. After a long eighty minutes of end to end football and more than a few ‘nail-biting / edge-of-seat’ moments we are delighted to have secured our place in the county final on a full-time score of 4-18 to 2-14. We often hear it said ‘a game of two halves’, on this occasion we would have to say it was a game of several quarters. We played against a very strong wind in the first half and struggled to find the space between the uprights, scoring four points to Dromahair’s goal and nine. With the introduction of a few substitutes and the wind in our favour, we were more composed in the second half and turned the scoreboard to our advantage with some great scores from play. However despite scoring a goal and twelve points in the half it wasn’t enough to see us through. Dromahair’s lead coming into the half along with a second goal in the closing minutes saw us with a draw game at the full time whistle.  And so into extra time we went. We started the first half of extra time with fire and found the net on two occasions with a one point reply from Dromahair giving us a five point lead with ten minutes to go. We continued to power on for the last ten scoring another goal and two points without reply from Dromahair. Well done to the team and management on a great win and best of luck in the final.
