You’d go a long way to find a more dedicated club footballer than the long-serving Arnie Mahon from Laois.
In a week when the evergreen Johnny Doyle has been making the headlines after his man of the match performance for Allenwood in the Kildare IFC final, former Longford manager Billy O’Loughlin described his 45-year-old Arles-Killeen team-mate as one of the club’s “all-time greats” after he played in all of their senior league and championship games this year. Arnie’s commitment to his beloved club is all the more noteworthy considering he has been commuting from Dublin since 2006 to line out for them.
Arnie helped Arles-Killeen to retain their senior status with a resounding 2-17 to 2-6 victory over Park-Ratheniska a few weeks ago and will surely be back for another campaign in 2024.
TweetAs club season closes, wanted to note one of the all time @ArlesKilleenGFC greats, Arnie Mahon. Played in all our Senior league and championship games this year. At midfield. He’s 45. Driving from Dublin to play with our club since 1996. A gentleman. 👏🏻⬛️⬜️ pic.twitter.com/BKv1dMukRL
