Justin McNulty has been recommended for the Laois senior football manager's post on a three-year term.
It will be the Armagh 2002 All-Ireland SFC winner's second stint as O'Moore County boss, having led the midlanders to promotion to Division 1 of the Allianz League in 2011 and an All-Ireland SFC quarter-final appearance in 2012 during his previous spell in charge.
Laois GAA confirmed last night that the SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh would be reprising the role he left a decade ago.
"Justin brings a wealth of experience to the role," a statement read.
"Justin will work with the county board and players' leadership group to finalise the coaching team over the coming weeks."
Laois have been without a manager since Billy Sheehan stepped down at the beginning of July.
