Laois senior hurling champions Clough-Ballacolla are in mourning following the tragic death of former player Sean Clear in New Zealand.
Sean, who played for the club from a young age and would have celebrated his 25th birthday yesterday, died last week while working on machinery at a farm in New Zealand, where he had lived and worked since last autumn.
He hailed from a well-known GAA family, with his father Tom being a current Leinster GAA delegate and former Laois GAA vice-chairman. Sean is also survived by his mother Julie and sister Ella. He is a past-pupil of Ballacolla National School and St Fergal's College in Rathdowney.
A minute's silence was held as a mark of respect before last Sunday's Allianz Football League Division 4 clash between Laois and Carlow at Netwatch Cullen Park.
"We are deeply saddened over it. The nicest young lad young lad you could ever meet,” Clough-Ballacolla GAA chairman Gordon Pearson said of Sean.
