Paul Kingston struck for 1-10 as Laois secured their third win in as many outings in the Allianz Football League at Carlow’s expense this afternoon.

The 1-17 to 2-8 victory at Newatch Cullen Park sees the O’Moore men move two points clear at the top of Division 4 after Leitrim slumped to their first loss against Wexford.

Carlow had made a blistering start with a Colm Hulton goal and, while the visitors wouldn’t get off the mark until the 20th minute, they still managed to go in all square at the break.

After the turnaround, Laois really started to get into their groove and it saw Brian Byrne, Kingston, Evan O’Carroll and Mark Barry all hitting points and – despite O’Carroll’s sending off – they’d finish comfortable winners with Kingston firing in their goal for good measure on the 70-minute mark.

Wexford picked up their first win of the campaign be seeing off Leitrim on a 0-19 to 0-15 scoreline at Chadwicks Wexford Park.

In what was an airtight encounter throughout, the hosts dug deepest in the closing stages to land points via Niall Hughes, Mark Rossiter (2), full-back Brian Molloy and substitute Cian Hughes to Andy Moran’s men their first loss.

In Markievicz Park, Sligo proved too strong for Waterford in a 0-21 to 0-13 win that moves them up to four points in the promotion race.

Sean Carrabine (0-8) was in fine form for the Yeats men whom led by 0-9 to 0-4 at the halfway stage and could afford to squander a couple of goal chances in the second-half against the winless hosts.
