Every here the one about the nine-time All-Ireland SHC winner who was regraded to junior, well neither did we until now.

Kilkenny’s Jackie Tyrrell has won every major honour in the game multiple times, but his love of hurling has never waned and this year he is eligible to play for his club James Stephen’s junior team.

Tyrrell and the club actually appealed the initial decision by the Kilkenny CCC not to allow the regrading go through and he was successful second time around.

The 37-year-old lined out in the Kilkenny senior hurling final defeat to Ballyhale Shamrocks last year, but this year will line out for the club’s second string.

However, it would be no surprise to see Tyrrell play for the club’s seniors at some stage of the campaign, but he is sure to draw bigger crowds to the club’s junior games.
