Croke's and Kerry star Colm Cooper
Colm Cooper will captain Kerry once again in 2012 after being nominated for the role by his club Dr Crokes.

Following their recent retention of the Kerry SFC, the Killarney club have the right to choose the county captain and have decided to give Cooper another chance to lead the Kingdom to All-Ireland glory after their heartbreaking defeat to Dublin in this year's final.

Cooper has been selected for the captaincy ahead of club-mates Eoin Brosnan, Kieran O'Leary, Johnny Buckley and Daithi Casey - all of whom were members of this year's Kerry panel.

"We're delighted to nominate Colm because he has been an inspirational leader for Dr Crokes and Kerry," said club chairman Vincent Casey, who added that the five county panellists had met during the week to discuss the captaincy issue.

If Kerry are to regain the Sam Maguire next year, Cooper may need to wear a different number as no player wearing the number 13 jersey has ever captained an All-Ireland winning senior football team.
