A year which began with him being dropped from the Kerry football panel had a happy ending for Micheál Burns when he helped Dr Crokes to a ninth Munster club SFC title.

The highly-rated forward kicked five points as the Killarney club completed a hat-trick of county league, county and provincial championship wins with a 0-15 to 1-6 victory over Loughmore-Castleiney to set up an All-Ireland semi-final meeting with Ulster champions Errigal Ciarán early in the New Year.

"These days don't come around often and you have to cherish them. You can see what it means to people out here on the pitch. A brilliant day for the club,” a delighted Burns told reporters in Mallow.

"We haven't been here in a while and it's just a great feeling now leading into Christmas with something to look forward to afterwards."

An All-Ireland winner with Crokes in 2017, Burns added: “When I came into the senior group, there was a fierce talented team there. We rode on the coattails of them for a small bit. 

“We’re back now with a new group, while a few of the older lads are still there. The new group have really driven it on and it’s a brilliant feeling to be back because back in 2018, I don't think we’d have thought it would’ve been this long.

“Today is just unbelievable. To have three trophies in Kerry and provincial honours here, it’s dream stuff really. It's just a powerful feeling at the moment. We're riding on momentum and nobody wants it to stop.”
