Austin Stacks and Kilmurry have been crowned Munster club intermediate and junior football champions respectively.
At a wind-swept Mallow, Cian Purcell scored 3-1 as Kerry heavyweights Austin Stacks dished out a 7-7 to 0-2 hammering to Aherlow of Tipperary. County midfielder Joe O’Connor was also immense for the Tralee side whose other goals came from Paddy Lane, Sean Quilter, O’Connor and Shane O’Callaghan.
Stacks led by 1-5 to 0-0 at half-time before going goal-crazy in the second half after Aherlow corner forward Cathal Dillon was given his marching orders.
Despite having James O’Mullane and Kyle Kelleher sent off in the closing 10 minutes, Kilmurry were 1-10 to 0-9 winners over Kerry’s Firies in the junior decider which was played under lights in Rathkeale.
It was a case of third time lucky for the Cork outfit who lost the 2022 and ’23 finals to Kerry opponents Fossa and Listowel Emmets. Wing forward Liam Wall’s early goal was the crucial score for the winners who held a slender 1-5 to 0-7 lead at the break.
