Abbeydorney are Kerry senior hurling champions for the first time in 50 years after defeating Ballyduff by 1-17 to 1-10 in Tralee this afternoon.

Francis O'Halloran’s side made a strong start to this decider that saw them 0-5 to 0-1 in front after nine minutes, and while Ballyduff closed the margin to two, a well taken goal by Oisin Maunsell in the 25th minute saw the victors racing towards a commanding 1-11 to 0-5 half-time lead.

Maunsell, Michael O’Leary and Brendan O’Leary kept the points flowing for Abbeydorney after the change of ends, with the scoreboard reading 1-16 to 0-10 in their favour before Ballyduff struck their goal with a minute left in normal time.

Jack O’Sullivan struck the major for the 25-time champions that made it a six-point game heading into injury-time where Michael O’Leary’s free cemented a first Neilus Flynn Cup in half a century for Abbeydorney.
