Galway will face Mayo in the Allianz Football League Division 1 final next weekend after handing holders Kerry their fourth defeat of the campaign on a 1-13 to 0-14 scoreline in Salthill.

Paul Conroy struck the all-important goal in the first-half for the Tribesmen as they led by 1-7 to 0-7 at the halfway stage.

Kerry did get the margin down to one with some 20 minutes to go thanks to points from Sean O’Shea and David Clifford, but Shane Walsh and Rob Finnerty widened the margin out again for the hosts.

O’Shea would be denied a late goal thanks to a point-blank save from Bernard Power in the Connacht champions' goal and the former sailed over the resultant ’45, however it wasn’t enough as Galway secured their Division 1 final berth.

Padraic Joyce’s men will face neighbours Mayo in that decider at headquarters next weekend despite the Westerners being inflicted with their first loss of the campaign by Monaghan this afternoon.

The 2-14 to 0-14 result means the Farney men sealed their topflight status for next season, with their Ulster counterparts Armagh and Donegal slipping down to Division 2 instead.

Ryan O’Toole and Conor McManus (penalty) supplied the crucial goals that cemented Monaghan’s third win of the campaign and also confirmed their 10th successive season in Division 1.

In Omagh, Tyrone relegated Armagh by edging a 0-18 to 0-16 win that ensured them a midtable finish.

The key points came from ‘Man of the Match’ Conn Kilpatrick, Darren McCurry (free) and Ronan McNamee down the home stretch for the Red Hands.

The hosts led by the odd point in 14 at the halfway stage but Armagh levelled three times in the third quarter before Stefan Campbell shot them 0-14 to 0-13 in front.

Tyrone hit the next three scores though and finished the job with three more to outweigh another from Campbell and consign the Orchard men to Division 2 next year.

In Dr Hyde Park, Roscommon brought the curtain down on a forgettable campaign for Donegal with a 0-21 to 0-9 rout.

After manager Paddy Carr walked away in mid-week after just five months in charge, Aidan O’Rourke and Paddy Bradley were on the sidelines for the Tir Chonaill men but could do little to stop the Rossies from tearing them apart.

Ben O’Carroll, Enda Smith and Diarmuid Murtagh were all on the scoresheet as Davy Burke’s men led by 0-12 to 0-7 at half-time and they’d outscore their opponents 0-9 to 0-2 to pick up their fourth win and secure a third place finish in the table.
