A former Kerry minor footballer made his American college football debut for Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets over the weekend.

Castleisland Desmonds clubman David Shanahan, who was part of the Kingdom’s 2017 Munster MFC winning squad, became the first Irishman to be awarded a full scholarship to play American college football last year after impressing coaches at Prokick, an Australian academy aimed at transitioning Australian athletes into American football place kickers.

The 20-year-old took Georgia Tech’s three kicks during their surprise 22-21 loss to Northern Illinois, kicking 158 yards in total.
