John Maher is an injury doubt for Galway’s Connacht SFC semi-final against Roscommon on Easter Sunday.

The All-Star forward is awaiting the results of a scan on an ankle injury which forced him to retire after just 17 minutes of the Tribesmen’s quarter-final win over New York in Gaelic Park last Sunday.

"I was quite worried the way he went down," Galway manager Padraic Joyce told RTÉ after the final whistle.

"He seems to be walking fine, but we'll get a scan when we get home. He is such a key part, a key warrior and we'll get him looked after. Hopefully it's not too bad."

Joyce expects to welcome back Shane Walsh and Damien Comer for the provincial semi-final, while Moycullen's Peter Cooke has also returned to the panel, having not featured since the 2023 All-Ireland SFC preliminary round loss to Mayo.

"We had seven or eight little niggle injuries today and we couldn't chance lads the way they were," he added.

"They weren't fit to play. We had the best XV available to us and that's all we can do. Every time we train is to make sure we have the best lads available."
