Limerick bounced back from last weekend’s loss to Clare by handing Galway an emphatic 12-point defeat at the TUS Gaelic Grounds tonight.
It finished 1-27 to 0-18 at the Limerick venue, where Shane O’Brien’s brilliantly taken goal in the 20th minute moved the Treaty men seven in front of the visitors.
After that, the points of O’Brien, Colin Coughlan and Barry Nash helped John Kiely’s side to lead by 1-12 to 0-8 and they’d turn the screw in the second-half.

Cian Lynch sailed over the first point for the Munster champions after the change of ends and, while Conor Cooney and Brian Concannon would look to keep Galway in touch with points, the Tribesmen would be reduced to 14 men after full-forward Cooney picked up second yellow card in the 43rd minute.
The points of Cathal O’Neill, Aidan O’Connor and Tom Morrissey stretched Limerick’s lead after that and the hosts’ advantage would be at double digits once Aaron Gillane sailed over.
O’Neill and David Reidy raised more white flags for the Shannonsiders before Cathal Mannion’s point at the other end stopped the rot for Galway.
Mannion would add four more scores in the closing quarter but they’d only serve to take some tarnish off the scoreline for Micheál Donoghue’s charges, as Gillane (free), Morrisey and Nash shot points down the home stretch to round off their team’s winning tally.
