Galway have set a new record for spending on inter-county teams.
The expenditure figure for 2024 on preparing inter-county teams is €2,705,430, which is up from €2,449,734 last year. The figure in 2022 was €2,161,497. This year’s increase can be attributed to the footballers’ run to the All-Ireland final and the subsequent team holiday.
Despite the record spend, Galway GAA has reported a surplus of €733,480. Income for 2024 surpassed €6 million for the first time with a 42% increase in fundraising income contributing to this. Commercial income also rose to almost €1 million, while club gate receipts and streaming of local games amounted to €982,482 and €133,339 respectively.
The figures will be presented at next Monday night’s annual convention where outgoing chairman Paul Bellew is set to be opposed by Tuam Stars’ Alan Mongey. There are three nominations for the vacant position of treasurer – Mark Brennan of Turloughmore, Tommy Kelly from Corofin and Enda Mulkerrins of St Thomas'.
Meanwhile, Limerick's outlay on team expenses came to €1,987,431, which was well down on last year's figure of €2.37m when they completed a four-in-a-row of All-Ireland SHC title wins.
