All-Ireland champions St Thomas’ fell to a late comeback from Cappataggle this afternoon as the latter reached their first Galway senior hurling championship final ever.

Cappataggle had taken in a 0-9 to 0-7 lead at the halfway stage at Kenny Park before the holders hit six unanswered points early in the second-half with Conor Cooney and Eanna Burke to the fore for them.

The scoreboard read 0-14 to 0-11 in St Thomas’ favour with 13 minutes left, but Cappataggle would get motoring again and this goal from Oisin Finn (watch it below) saw them hit the front in the 54th minute before hanging on for a famous victory.

Steven Creaven's men now meet neighbours Loughrea in next month’s Tom Callinan Cup final, after they defeated Clarinbridge by 3-16 to 1-16 in the day’s other semi-final.
