OK was enough for Mayo at U20 level. Remains to be seen will Fitzmaurice be the manager to place his trust in starting few U20s come the business end of the championship.

Don't think what Mayo did at u20 is of any relevance. They'd a couple of generational players last year and were focused on senior. Look ahead to 2027 and hopefully Galway can unearth a few young guns and actually play them

Seems like this is Galway's fixture list for the league. Not too bad on paper. 4 home games. Not much travel really. Although I think Galway have generally played better away from home in the league in recent years. Marooned (Galway) - Posts: 2579 - 03/11/2026 20:53:01 2699374 Link 0 |

Depends if they're good enough. There is no point putting lads in if they're not. Not too many u20s are ready straight away for senior, Lets not get carried away here - Mayo had just two under 20s involved. Kobe was clearly good enough and was destined to be a superstar - a blind man could tell you that whilst Darragh Beirne was also flagged from his minor days and crucially for them was a left footed free taker which they didn't have. That's what got him into the team. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1417 - 04/11/2026 08:30:41 2699386 Link 0 |

Beirne is also fully developed physically - a powerful unit.

Exactly, it's all about the quality. We won u21 all irelands in 2002 and 2005, and still had a senior team that was thoroughly outclassed by Mayo 2011-2015.

How do Galway people see Salthill doing in Connacht? Interested to hear as I know St Brigids beside us are very strong and are being talked about as all Ireland contenders. Haven't seen Salthill play but on paper look very strong and I think they'd give Brigids plenty of it? BadgerDog (Westmeath) - Posts: 163 - 04/11/2026 10:53:12 2699398 Link 1 |

"Lets not get carried away here - Mayo had just two under 20s involved." It was actually 3 - Eoin McGreal, Darragh Beirne and Kobe McDonald all started the all Ireland final. Dmoa95 (UK) - Posts: 23 - 04/11/2026 11:26:07 2699404 Link 0 |

Of course St Brigids are All Ireland contenders as they should have won it last year as they had the lead and only had to run out the clock. Salthill are a very good team but will have to be at their very best to have a hope vs Brigids at all. Some great football ahead.

Was at both the semi final and final and didnt think salthill looked special although they did deserve to win both games. Brigids will only be happy with an All-Ireland while salthill might be happy with a first county title since 2012. Id imagine Brigids will have too much for them but you never know. Salthill-Knocknacarra are just after beating Moycullen who lost on fine margins to Brigids last year so should the two meet as expected in the semi-final it will be another fine margin contest and the winner should beat Castlebar in the final who remarkably only have to beat the London champions to reach the final.
