Replying To datsit:  "Hurling manager was ratified at the last county board meeting"
Yes heard it's a young manager I think from Laois

Disappointing result for St. Mel's; have they anything serious coming through over the next few years? It seems that team about 3 years was there last chance at winning a Leinster for a long time.

The season's just gone county minor team took heavy defeats and 2025's minors competed better but still ended up in a C All Ireland so that would point to a weak couple of years in Longford. Mel's can't win Leinster's without a freak year of talent since the borders stopped. Even the year our Longford minors won a Leinster title Mels only made a semi final so it is unlikely that we'll see them winning Leinster titles anytime soon.

Sadly dosent look like it it's no surprise to me to see the result when you look at the Longford minor results this year it's very sad have they any player in that team who is starting for their senior team

You are correct not one of this years county minor team started for their senior team because they are not eleigible to play senior until next year!

On a more positive note many of this years county u20 team looked to be developing well and a number made big contributions to their clubs. But I suppose proof will be in their championship campaign

Mel's still have a player pool to pick from of Longford Slashers, Grattans, Killoe, Sean Connollys, Clonguish primarily with others coming from Ardagh and Drumlish also. While the end of boarding definitely reduced the pick available in this day and age most other schools seem to have gotten over this. Would this indicate a deeper underlying issue in the standard of the club scene within the county?

If we look to our neighbours in Westmeath, they had 2 teams competing in the final last year, with Colaiste Mhuire winning back to back Leinster's as well as going on to win the AI last year. Obviously a bigger population in Westmeath and CM would be pulling from some very strong clubs in Westmeath, but surely there is enough of a pick of clubs that Mel's can pull from that they should be able to perform better in Leinster?

I can only speak for the lads from our club, but of the 8 that played, 6 of them are still in school next year.

Cathal Lynch and James Flynn played a good few league games for us. They were on the Junior team in the championship.
