Fair enough. I appreciate your consistency. Its amazing how many gaa fans extol the virtue of choice and freedom when a player moves to the afl but suddenly forget those things when a player chooses to move club. Seniorleague (Galway) - Posts: 381 - 18/10/2026 14:11:38 2697729 Link 0 |

Great final and a super endorsement of the club game in Donegal Donegal2022 (Donegal) - Posts: 14 - 18/10/2026 18:41:04 2697776 Link 0 |

Better team won. Glenties had a few bad wides but I thought Eunans were worse, especially in the first half. They nearly kicked it away. Great year for them all the same - Senior Men, Senior Women, Senior B and Senior Hurling. Has that ever been done before? peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 1755 - 18/10/2026 20:04:41 2697790 Link 0 |

Better team on the day won but NC not seeing it out was fairly bad. Between the missed free, doing nothing after Patton kicked out to the sideline and then the dropped shot at the end. They'll be back though for sure. They always do come back.

As expected, a really tight final with very little between the teams. Niall O'Donnell is a fantastic player, and a very brave one. Not for the first time in a big game, he took on the responsibility for landing crucial scores. It's a pity I don't think we'll see him back in Donegal colours (US bound again?) Niall has never really turned in big performances at County level unfortunately, Its a pity, as I always believed he had the potential, but just didn't seem to have the drive or motivation at County level.

I'm not begrudging him the opportunity to go try his hand at something, but honestly as a lifelong Donegal GAA fan, It does sicken me to see AFL or North American GAA scouts coming over here luring our up and coming talent away while we are trying to mount a serious challenge for the All Ireland. I don't buy the "There is nothing to do in Donegal for young people", there are loads of career opportunities, loads of outdoor sports and activities on our doorstep in Donegal if someone is driven. Niall o'donnell getting a lot of praise on here, and rightly so for that 2 pointer, but for me Ciaran Moore was the man who made the difference for Eunans when it mattered, with those 2 points to get them back level (even though the 2nd one looked well wide) . greenfan (Donegal) - Posts: 831 - 19/10/2026 10:58:16 2697843 Link 0 |

Yeah he is a bit of a mercurial player alright. Probably doesn't have a full 70 minutes at county level in him. But he'd still be a fantastic option to spring from the bench. I think our starting full strength 15 can give any county a game, but squad depth is perhaps where we're lacking. In particular players who can come on and change the course of a game with a big play or a big score or two. I think Niall would certainly fall into that category. But of course, he may not be inclined towards the substitute role, and in any case, he may not be available full stop. As others have mentioned, Ciaran Moore really stepped it up when the fat was in the fire for Eunans. He is a formidable athlete and a very good footballer who is well able to take a score. He will be a big player for Donegal again in 2027. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 10516 - 19/10/2026 12:26:46 2697860 Link 0 |

Ciaran Moore was excellent yesterday when the game was in the melting pot and was a worthy MOTM. He has some engine to keep going a full tilt for the whole game. Conor O'Donnell referenced it after the game, while also having a bit of a rib at Niall about doing very little training since his return. Niall, though, has real class as a footballer, and that was obvious after he came on. The two-pointer was a superb kick. Overall, it was a very enjoyable game, particularly the last 20 minutes or so after the Naomh Conaill goal. I thought the first half was a little too nice for my liking. It could have done with a bit more of a championship edge, like the Glenswilly-Naomh Conaill semi-final. Finbarr kept Shane O'Donnell very quiet for most of the game. You can see him taking on that sort of tagging role in the AFL, although it did curtail his own impact on the game to some extent. Anyway, congratulations to St Eunan's and best of luck in Ulster. I agree with you that people tend to love a good whinge about how bad things are at home, when in reality things aren't too bad at all, and we're very lucky to be living in such a beautiful and peaceful part of the world. But I think no matter how well things are at home, be it full time employment, social and recreational outlets etc, there will always be a sense of wanderlust for young people. And rightly so. You only get a certain window in your life where you're single, mortgage-free, no parental responsibilities etc so if you have the opportunity to spread the wings and broaden your horizons, go for it.
