Not for now. They're both able to field at adult level. Underage was obviously different, when you need bigger numbers at each age group. They have a very good crop of lads either side of U15. I understand it's mainly Beagh in that group, but I'm open to correction.

It's the Junior Clubs who are crying about trying to promote hurling, it's their choice to enter the hurling Championship. Therefore if you enter the lions den you better be prepared to fight the Lion! In others words get their own house in order and stop ridiculing hurling Clubs who have strong 2nd teams. Annaghdown got their house in order 25yrs ago and won Junior C,B and A alll the way upto the old Intermediate Championship. There is poor aul Tuam playing Junior F trying to promote hurling, yet if they became successful they can't get promoted to Premier Junior became the highest level they can go is Reeves Cup! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2942 - 07/09/2026 18:22:46 2693080 Link 0 |

If ardrahan have Brian callanan fully fit they will win in my opinion. I believe Cianan fahy and Tom Monaghan will fairly even each other out and I think the likes of Michael Walsh and Conor cosgrove are better answers to leen and Pendergast then what Craughwell have for the likes of Callanan (if fit) as well as the gardiners who got 3 each against turlough

An Spidéal also went from Junior C to old intermediate. They won Junior A which included the second teams of larger clubs. The hurlball clubs as you call them were able to compete. The issue was they were often facing teams with senior players early in the championship. It made a mockery of it. A couple of things: All hurling clubs got to vote on the new structure and it passed with almost 70%. There are far more hurling only clubs than dual clubs, so plenty hurling only clubs voted for it too. You can keep giving out about it, but it's what the clubs wanted. You're also wrong about Tuam. If they do manage to get up to Junior A and win it, then they would be in Premier Junior, as they're a first team. They have a long way to go to get to the level, but would be great to see it. Your spot on over the last few years the second teams ran up big scores in the earlier rounds but as the competition progressed they lost players to their senior team resulting in getting hammered when the knockout started often to cost of teams that they played earlier

Under the current rules there is no promotion to Premier Junior, so the highest grade a Club can go is Reeves Cup. From Junior F,E,D,C,B,A and then Reeves Cup. Madness!! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2942 - 08/09/2026 10:29:16 2693121 Link 0 |

The whole idea of sport is to be competitive against the best and if a hurling Clubs 2nd team is strong....so what try harder to beat them! That Premier Junior is not competitive, 2 groups of 5 with the top 4 from each group into QF, so basically lose 3 of the 4 group games and your in QF! What have poor Barna/Furbo got from it....3 losses 1 draw sitting bottom of the barrel season over! Forgot about An Spidéal great achievement, so there you go it can be done winning and competing against hurling Clubs strong 2nd or 3rd teams. There is Barna Furbo getting a free ride in Premier Junior when you should earn your status to stay in the 3rd tier! That rule about Clubs Senior players you could always regrade 6 Senior players to Junior but now a Clubs Senior team have to play first before their Junior team plays so normally the regraded players end up playing Senior again. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2942 - 08/09/2026 10:54:54 2693127 Link 0 |

No promotion for second teams. Tuam would be promoted to premier junior if they won Junior A.

I met up with some friends after racing last evening and one of the group commented the comment that the lady involved in hurling draws on GBfm made about Moycullen being the unluckiest team in the competition was surprisingly agreed by 5 of 6 present, it must be said that only 2 two saw the game.It was said that if the controversial goal had stood that Loughrea would have being depending on Tommy L to keep them in the championship.I wonder is that lady's view held by more? backtooldwall (Galway) - Posts: 254 - 08/09/2026 11:08:12 2693130 Link 0 |
