Replying To Waltermitty2:  "The structure of our club championship has nothing to do with how poor our county teams are."
How do you figure that?

Replying To Pikeman96:  "Realise I'm throwing a lot into this conversation, but here goes again!

Maybe goes back to what we spoke about a couple of weeks ago, about democracy maybe being a bad thing in clubs having such a say on championship structures. Generally speaking, clubs think primarily of what gives themselves the best chance.

No wonder that groups of six, with four or five going through, are so popular. You could get away with two, three or even four bad results and still go through. But change to just three matches in a group of four, and you probably won't get away with two bad results, and you definitely won't get away with three.

And it's 100% true that we simply can't have everything people want - i.e. county teams going further than they've done these past few years, club championships that take 17 rounds of fixtures to complete, a free weekend for EP, and still have the whole lot wrapped up in time for Leinster Club Championships.

Just to point out though that we had the two groups of six long before the HAC got involved in such things, so I wouldn't be laying all the blame at their door. Even if they'd never come in with their proposals that led to the extra round in hurling, we'd still need 16 weeks, and we'd still be in difficulty getting everything else we want if our county teams went further."
Yes but the 2 groups of 6 also goes back to a time when we had rounds of championship in April/May which gave us room and gave rhe opportunity to take a breath. I agree thats nkt on the HAC but they are obsessed with games fkr the sake of games.

When it comes to this situation democracy is a disaster, whats even worse is the fact many clubs still just say drive on, shur we will work it out without giving any thought as to how this can be worked out as evidenced by some of the sellers on here.

I pretty much guarantee that most people in most clubs aren't aware of the facts as outlined here.

I do think the county board need to do a proper analysis and it has to stem from them saying what we are doing isn't feasible,e fkr what everyone wants again as outlined here. Its not the county boards fault but they do need to spearhead the drive for change and it has to be communicated to clubs.

At the moment we aren't been served well by our club championships imho

And do we have to have groups of 6 for both???
Start the change with the football championship as no committee there to object. Then if it is successful the hurling championship will follow.

I wonder if clubs were given the option it's either straight knockout championship or we have to play the first few rounds of the championship without the county players which one would they choose?

There is a Football Advisory Committee, every bit as much as there's a hurling one. They just don't tend to be as vocal, and they haven't brought any motions about football championship structure.

But I guarantee you - any move to run football as groups of just three or four, while hurling remains groups of six, would cause an outcry.

Anyway. About this weekend's matches. :)

I see a four-way tie in one of the Intermediate A groups. Looking at the "mini league" table on Wexford GAA Facebook makes me think how much jeopardy there'd really be if that was just a group of four in the first place. Clongeen would be out of the championship despite having exactly the same results (one win, one draw, one defeat) as the team at the top of their table. Every single score would have been crucial and an extra goal or two somewhere along the way could have made a massive difference.

Well the last time I looked players had to be 18 before they play in adult championships. If you are relying on the adult club championships to develop players for county teams you are in a sad place. The club championship could be more competitive for sure but its primary purpose is for the 90% of players in the GAA and to keep the game alive.

What might be more acceptable is two groups of five and create a senior A & B - but clubs still won't vote for it as they fear they could be the team to be relegated.

Just on a point of order. You don't have to be 18. You just have to be in your final year of Minor.

For example, if your birthday is Christmas Day, you'd still only be 17 years old during all of this year's championship. But then you'd turn 18 in December and thus be overage for Minor next year. So as you're in your final year of Minor now, you'd be entitled to play adult now, despite still only being 17.

What has happened to buffers alley, it is really disappointing to see a once great club fall back so far. They were beaten by 20 something points yesterday and it wasn't their only big beaten this year. I fear for them against St james in the quarter final.

3 goups of 5
Group a and b made of senior teams top 5 finishing places this year .
2 bottom teams into group c for following year .
Promote 2 intermediate teams that are in the intermediate final to Group c for following year and for first year only have a play off for losing semi finalists to see who makes up the 5th team for group c
Intermediate would be 2 groups of 5 also inter A winners promoted .to intermediate . Losers of relegation releated as is now .

15 teams could win senior Group c would be weaker Group potentially and they get chance to play teams of more like their standard Like a half way house to build but still potential to won championship

Top 3 in a+ b straight to 1/4 final 4th in each group play 1 and 2 in group c in preliminary 1/4 final . And then 1/4 finals as usual .
3rd and 4th in group c go into intermediate 1/4 finals joined by 1st and 2nd in intermediate groups .
3rd plays 4th in opposite groups in prelim 1/4 final .
Winners into 1/4 final proper losers finished .
5th in intermediate groups into relegation final as is now .
5th in group c relegated to intermediate for following year . Winners of intermediate promoted to group c or best placed intermediate team if any or both group c teams make it to intermediate final .
Top 2 in c promoted to group a b for following year . 5th in a and b relagated to c group for following year .
And 3r or 4th santander be relegated only 5th in group c .
At least 5 games apart from 5th in group c
Each team gets week off in between .
Promoted teams have chance to possibly stay up and pkay teams of similar quality .
Any questions do ask to clarify format as lot to take in maybe.
Why would teams vote fir it no relegation on first year for . More to lose ie jeopardy in group stages . Abd all games . Reward for coming in top 3 but still plenty of games a week off for every team to regroup in betwen round robin .

What's the new system in wexford now? Is it top 3 or 4 through, and bottom team in each group in relegation final?

Went to my first live games this weekend kinda regretted it. Oylegate were far too good for Rapps damien deck was outstanding could be an option in the forwards for Derek mcgrath. Seem to be playing the short ball which suits them.
Anne's won easily against the harriers who were terrible. Were allowed do what they want the elder statesmen were very good.
