Went to this one to see what the standard was like. Desperate stuff. Both teams poor, but Blayney got one score in the first 30 minutes, with the breeze. The boys here bigging up Blayney, and their backroom team would need to have a serious chat with themselves. Magheracloone weren't much better, but once they got the goal themselves they settled and kicked the last seven scores.

Blayney looked very average at the weekend missed so many chances. Maraghcloone turned them over every time they entered contact. Corduff and Cremartin are cat they look like two mid table intermediate teams. Farneyarmy2013 (Monaghan) - Posts: 41 - 17/08/2026 09:10:56 2690136 Link 0 |

I'm told the lads in question didn't play on saturday against currin so if no rules were broken why did they not play on Saturday having played the previous week……..the whole thing is farcical…. Took myself to inniskeen corduff on Saturday, it was literally men against boys…not hard to see why certain quarters were pushing so hard for senior to be extended to 12 teams………… inniskeen moving well and clearly the 2nd best team in the county.. mick2007 (Monaghan) - Posts: 688 - 17/08/2026 09:31:18 2690139 Link 3 |

I thought last year that Blayney got promoted a year or 2 too early. Their league results this year distorted where they are at right now. They have a lot of decent young players coming through from minor (A McGinnity, Nugent, McGeough) and Blayney will be a stronger proposition in coming years. It will be a relegation play off for them and lucky for them only one team going down. Based on yesterday, there are the worst team I've seen this year in senior. Think it will be between them and Cremartin. On a different note, Dualta Honney has looked impressive for Carrick in the past two games. Has he quit soccer or in the midst of getting a new club? If he committed to GAA, he'd be worth a look for Monaghan. In intermediate, good to see Michael Hamill make his return for Emyvale. Hopefully he can regain his form after a terrible injury. sleater (Monaghan) - Posts: 210 - 17/08/2026 09:52:19 2690142 Link 0 |

Truagh are saving them lads for the knockout stages. Only have to win one game to get into a junior 1/4 final when these lads will be back out

Truagh won't win another game in Junior championship but the win over Killeevan will probably be enough for a quarter final. Killeevan probably miss out. Blackhill v Currin is a big game next week. On the other side Rockcorry won't get through. They have shipped 2 big defeats already.Toome and Seans in real danger of not making quarter final. Oram look good and Aghabog. Intermediate still up in the air. Ballybay probably favourites now with Bannigan injured again yesterday.Emyvale maybe dark horses. Looked on clubber like Clones should have won in Aughnamullen. No point even predicting Senior. Inniskeen probably looking likely to be the beaten finalists.Corduff, Castleblayney and Cremartin are all struggling. The new restructure next year will be a nightmare, with several teams out of their depth in both Senior and Intermediate grades. Junior is going to be totally devalued, with a pile of C teams allowed to enter. Matchwatcher (Monaghan) - Posts: 53 - 17/08/2026 14:31:58 2690200 Link 1 |

What's the problem with C teams ? What do you suggest these clubs do ? Not develop their players ? Surely junior clubs want to get better veterngaa (Monaghan) - Posts: 1101 - 17/08/2026 15:04:04 2690206 Link 1 |

It looks like there were teams like Latton and Blayney flattering themselves by going hard during the league, when the real contenders like Inniskeen weren't even fielding, with even Carrick putting out scrap teams and taking all in. Inniskeen going well, but will be second fiddle to Scotstown in the latter end. The relegation battle will be where the real competition is this year.

Senior, Intermediate and Junior divisions were always for club's first team. That's why there were different grades and levels in the first place. Then Scotstown wete allowed change the structure. How can Senior clubs entering competitions for weaker clubs possibly help Junior clubs get better? There are plenty of Reserve leagues to develop players and there should be as many teams in that as needed.Because you're not on your club's first team panel because your club is too big and there are too many players then then you are a Reserve player. That's just an unfortunate fact of being affiliated to a huge club.A Junior Championship win in Monaghan was always a huge achievement with great prestige. It was the pinnacle for a small club. Hence Monaghan Junior football was always well contested and respected.Ask Oram, Currin, Rock, Killeevan etc.Now we're allowing the big clubs the opportunity to win more than one Championship across different grades. Imagine allowing Kerry or Dublin enter a second team in Inter County football. Or Man City Reserves into the football league.Far from improving smaller clubs, it will destroy them. How can Toome and Rockcorry etc see any light at the end of the tunnel when the super size club "c" team are now beginning to dish out heavy defeats to them? These boys are losing interest. Where will it stop? If Scotstown win Junior Championship they'll want to be Intermediate and then they'll want a "D" team in Junior. Eventually some smaller clubs will come to the wall and fold because they can't compete and the chance of winning a championship at their own level is only fantasy. All to allow the already powerful get stronger. They're getting their way unfortunately. It won't be until further down the line when several clubs are extinct, and the focal point of many a small parish is gone, or have become big amalgamations, like some we already have, that people will see the damage done.

So truagh can just play a strong team on opening game Vs Killeevan securing the only win necessary to get to the knockout stages, them strong players won't be seen again until they are required again in the quarter final. Not fair on the likes of killeevan who will miss out over this.

With the restructuring - more reserve teams should be in the junior championship. I could be wrong but I think Dublin is just a big ladder structure, with reserve teams able to climb all the way up to the 2nd division? Either way a massive shakeup was and is needed. Every club team bar Scotstown, maybe Inniskeen and a few time wasters in senior is infinitely worse than it was ten years ago and you can see every club is still relying on men whose prime was 10 years ago. Ballybay were still reliant on Jaap two years ago, Clontibret are still hoping for a McManus return, Latton would be relegated without the two Duffy brothers, the harps are gone and both blayney and Magheracloone are now yo-yo clubs. League football has lost all meaning now and are glorified challenge matches to keep clubs training fodder fit while their championship players are in American or are getting themselves ready for the summer. Worse again is lads are better off playing in house games and saving diesel money than B and C competitions these days - they're a different world to what they were years ago and most club teams senior managers don't even go to the reserve games now. Fans and players can crib all they like about GB and even get Jim Gavin in if they like - looking around the county it is getting harder every year to pick out players at the level of your intercounty contenders like Kerry, Dublin, Armagh, Mayo, etc.. In the Reserve Divisions where all other Reserve teams are.

A bit like our county team for the last 10 years and then empty come May June, league football at any level is for finding systems and giving players a genuine chance of game time not 20 minutes and then half an hour 3 games later

Would need a miracle against Scotstown which i dont see happening. Would the Lennon bros that are over emyvale at the minute return to their native club next season? Latton certainly have the players there to do more than just a qr final every year.
