I was in the stand tonight chatting a Shamrocks man, he told me from the Shamrocks team and subs that came on that played the semi final last year against The Downs there are ten lads missing either through injury retirement or travelling. I can't see to many clubs competing with that turnover ,The Downs are a lot further down the road in their journey. It was men against boys really from a S&C point . I think Ty Masterson is going to make the step to inter county looking at him tonight .

A fair few missing for different reasons and some of the more experienced not performing. Ty Masterson looks a good talent, Adam Buckley, Adam Glynn and Cristoir Ormsby will also get a call in. Absolutely The Downs way more seasoned team but Shamrocks will be good in a couple of years

Tubberclair certain to qualify for quarter finals after an impressive comeback win over Killucan. A score difference of + 26, head to head results and six points in the bag means guaranteed qualification, Killucan not helped by injuries tonight, Tang vs Tyrrellspass looks like relegation decider, Killucan's matches with Athlone and Moate will be crucial Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2753 - 15/08/2026 23:29:00 2690026 Link 0 |

That can't be right 10 lads missing seems very high. I checked Shamrocks' team sheets and could only see Conor O'Brien, Paddy Fagan, Darragh Daly, Jordan Warde, Marc Rivers and John O'Reilly missing from last year I'm nearly sure Marc and John were listed tonight too. Unless he's counting fringe players no club bar Lomans or The Downs could compete or even field with 10 senior lads missing On other notes I don't think Moate are as ahead tang we're fairly close to get on top of them neary was looking good just thought they lost the legs a bit but I wouldn't surprised if tang beat Tyrellspass by the way things are going

On that point too I thought ty and Buckley were superb keepers; they made two great saves to keep it competitive but I think Shamrock's were going to get caught out sooner or later the two goals they got v Loman's are shots that dropped short and they got something onto it When the likes of Moran Martin Murtagh ran at them from deep they opened cracks TheWagonWheel-N91Y529 (Westmeath) - Posts: 14 - 16/08/2026 01:01:13 2690031 Link 0 |

accurate - but how many of those missing would actually improve them now? Marc Eivers the only one under 30 that is obvious to me. These young players are better - just not going to be physically ready to compete with a team like The Downs for a couple more years. They might still make a semi yet - but that's their limit. The Downs will continue to improve. Two nice games remaining to see them in to the knockouts. jamsie (Westmeath) - Posts: 530 - 16/08/2026 09:27:25 2690034 Link 0 |

Calm down a little bit, good prospects and may well feature but absolutely not certs. Ormsby has another year of U20 and needs to make an impact there. Killucan missing Eoghan Keyes but Tubberclair I'm told missing 5 players that started the Leinster Intermediate Final only last December. Shamrocks don't have mobile enough defenders. Some of them don't look fit valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1935 - 16/08/2026 13:53:26 2690056 Link 0 |

Michael Ennis doing some job with Ballinagore, not often a side from junior wins 2 out of first 3 games in intermediate, huge win over Rosemount today, group wide open with Ballymore leading on 6 points and the bridge, Rosemount and Ballinagore on 4. Ballinagore were playing junior 2 two years ago, now one win away from Section A in intermediate. Rosemount had David O' Reilly back too. Was at Caulry - Kinnegad. Caulry were shockingly bad. No attacking threat whatsoever. Their first point from play I think was about ten minutes from the end. Kinnegad weren't hectic either but did what was required. Probably one of the worst games I've seen over the past few years. Iarmhisamhi (Westmeath) - Posts: 67 - 16/08/2026 18:38:34 2690084 Link 0 |

Agree Caulry we're not good enough. Baker ,Mylnn,McCormack and Doyle all missing 4 from your first choice forwards missing without these players they are bound to struggle. Now facing in to 2 dead rubber games the way the championship format is this year . Advantage to The Downs and Lomams not very well structured when you study it. Tuberclair really kicking on will fancy playing anyone at moment.

How have Caulry two dead rubber games? Shamrocks and Loman's and Garrycastle have 3 points, Caulry with 2 wins in last two games get to 4 points, a dead rubber game and two difficult games to win are not the same thing. If Caulry beat Loman's and Kinnegad beat Loman's then Loman's finish on 3 points, Shamrocks could lose to Kinnegad and Garrycastle and also be on 3 points,

Then Caulry would still be 4th behind Garrycastle, who would have 5 points. Garrycastle and Shamrocks could draw, and end up on 4 with Caulry. But Caulry lose that mini league as lost to both. Caulry are out. Dead rubber.

Fair point on Caulry still being mathematically still in the championship. Multy & Castledaly with nothing to play for in last two rounds of intermediate. WHLeinster2026 (Westmeath) - Posts: 8 - 16/08/2026 21:10:35 2690100 Link 0 |

The Downs getting into gear now in rd 3 of the championship and in doing so highlighted to gap-experience wise-between themselves and Shamrocks-potential is there with Shams but were opened up very easily by a much better Downs side.2 shocking bad games in Tang today.Malachys won at their ease against a very poor Castledaly team who offered very little but credit to Malachys who are a good young team and will surely feature in later stages of this intermediate c/ship.in second game Kinnegad also won at their ease against a Caulry team who are rudderless without Baker and McCormack.Kinnegad kicked some bad wides and this performance if repeated wont cut it against the Downs or Lomans-cant imagine Jack Cooney would be over the moon with what he saw but a win is a win. I don't think Lomans will be any major threat this year. At the moment, I can't see the Downs being stopped. Lomans hit too many poor wides, and their goals came from two very poor Castle kickouts. I thought Weir and Smyth played well, and Gardiner was very unlucky not to win the game with a two-pointer at the end. They'll be happy with a draw, as they breached two or three times in the second half, keeping Lomans ahead A few of the Lomans lads who have been with Westmeath the past few years I don't think they'll be involved next year basing on their last 2/3 games TheWagonWheel-N91Y529 (Westmeath) - Posts: 14 - 16/08/2026 21:49:53 2690107 Link 0 |

That's based on Garrycastle and Shamrocks draw which is only a possibility, if Caulry win twice which is difficult but possible they end up on 4 points, they would finish ahead of Loman's if Lomans lost to Kinnegad which is certainly possible and if Shamrocks vs Garrycastle has a definite result as in a win then the loser would have 3 points unless they get points from matches versus Kinnegad or The Downs. It's simply wrong to claim Caulry have two dead rubber matches just to prove new system is wrong. Of course Caulry are favourites for Section B but it's possible they stay up with two wins. They certainly don't have a dead rubber match next. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2753 - 16/08/2026 22:00:36 2690111 Link 0 |

The Downs beat Mullingar by 8 points last night and Kinnegad beat Caulry by 11 points. Yes, the new format has definitely brought more intensity to the Championship.

If shamrocks lose to Garycastle then gary castle be on 5 points literally impossible for caulry to go through

I don't see how these results are any reflection on the structure but simply two teams at a higher level than their opposition.
