Replying To The_analyser:  "Great-grandfather Dan O'Rourke is to Lisa and Aoife.

During the late 1930s and early 1940s, Dan O'Rourke made his land and facilities available to Roscommon footballers for collective training something that was well ahead of its time. He had a shed built beside Tarmon School near Castlerea town to provide sleeping quarters for players travelling from across the county, while his family provided meals and hospitality. This unique arrangement created the foundation for what became known as the "Six Glorious Years" of Roscommon football, which saw the county win multiple Connacht titles and two All-Ireland senior championships in 1943 and 1944."
That's something else. Well he'd be very proud of his two great grand daughters. No wonder they are champions.

Nice to be nostalgic and all that but a clear plan involving a number of strategic planning would only get us possibly getting to win one. No proper centre of excellence yet a huge stumbling block. Will it arrive in this decade!"
Take 2 (does often where I post something but never get published) But yes, can we please talk about something relevant instead of history lessons like the start of our club championships tomorrow night or our Ladies team being in an All-Ireland Final on Sunday

The feeling is still surreal and I do sincerely wish every single county could experience winning an All Ireland title and every county should and can aspire to win an All Ireland. No reason why Roscommon can't push on next year and be at the business end in Croke Park….the raw materials are there."
You have to admire a team that goes and gets the job done. Better still
Ye were by daft the better team than Kerry on the day. Enjoy the celebrations and hopefully we can build on our own ambitions. A good start would be A win against ye in The Hyde which would be tasty in championship.

Connacht championship games will probably always remain competitive with Mayo, Roscommon and Galway competing. It's very much a three team championship at this stage. The rest down the levels big time.

Roscommon need to look beyond Connacht and The Hyde. There's no great team around today. Kerry were blessed to get to the All Ireland final this year. Roscommon have talented young players. No reason why we couldn't have been climbing the steps last Sunday but have we the ambition to go for it. Fair play to Andy Moran. He set out his stall to win an All Ireland and got there in season 1.

Looking back in the year I just feel like we are in the same position we have been for the last 10 years capable of winning connacht and competing in division 1 for a while but after that nothing. Management need to look deep into this and figure out why we can't get our levels of fight hunger intensity up the levels required after connacht.

With maybe 30 members of the squad not having won Connacht Senior medals and 10 or 12 of them debutants it was important to beat Mayo and Galway in Connacht. Most of them had done that at underage but had to be done at Senior as well.
They were 2 great days!!!
Sadly Clones is over riding them in the memory

It's 2 mountains climbed.
Now to move on to everest.....

Saying it's a history lesson is missing the point. There is an inferiority complex in the county and a lack of ambition despite producing very good footballers which is reflected in the massive effort that goes into beating Galway and Mayo and the woeful record in Croke Park from all county and club teams. People in the past have shown what can be done when you raise standards and ambition, those people didn't hide behind the excuse of a so called small County.
Really hoping the ladies can go to Croke Park in confidence and bring an All Ireland back to Roscommon. Best of luck to them all.

Best of luck to the ladies Intermediate team.

As for the inferiority complex ... the round Robin u17 and u 20 games have shown we can compete with and beat Galway and Mayo.
Likewise the 2026 Connacht Senior squad.
If we're beating those 2 we must be good.
Can we bring that knowledge to the AIs in all 3 grades.

Yes, it's true we can't do anything outside of Connacht. We have been in 3 under 20/21 all Ireland finals since 2006 in the same the time Galway has won 3 and Mayo have won 2. Until we start doing something different as a small country, this inferior will keep going on. We have a limited playing pool. We don't have many 6 foot plus players who are also mobile enough for the modern game. I mentioned before a select numbers of players who have the potential to play senior football need to be given additional help (internal scholarship)

Also why has club Rossie gone quite. It's okay for bigger large rural county's to access funding from disapora. We have one of best county grounds in the country now, so hopefully the county board realise it's time to focus on player development for the modern game.

We beat the All Ireland champions by 10 points in their home ground so we can't be too far away. Enough of this small playing pool. Roscommon was the same size county in the glorious 40s when we got to three All Ireland finals winning two. Roscommon was the same county in the late 70s when we had a champagne football team that went toe to toe with Kerry's greatest ever team. Brigid's are arguably the best gaa club in Ireland or close to it. I think Roscommon this year over celebrated winning Connacht. That was clearly a mistake but we have a mostly young team. Next year let's focus on being really ambitious like Andy Moran and aiming to win the All Ireland. I don't see why not. There is no great team out there. Congrats to Mayo but they beat a flat and ordinary Kerry team last week. I do think this year is a missed opportunity for Ros but let's go for it next year.

Club Rossie should be chasing the diaspora.
Would there be 500 well heeled Rossies around the rest of Ireland and the rest of the World?
Would they provide €1,000 per annum each?

If you are reaching All-Ireland finals at underage then you are doing something. U20/21 are first and foremost about development and how many from each team can go on to be senior footballers.

Wouldn't be as quick to dismiss the work and success Roscommon have done at underage and without it could easily be at the level of neighbours Offaly,Sligo,Longford right now.

Mayo have won one All-Ireland at U20/U21 in 20 years and I watched the Connacht final that year (2016) it was a game Roscommon should and could have won comfortably. Was no team in the All-Ireland series that year of the quality of Tyrone (2015) or Dublin (2012,2014,2010) so perhaps All-Ireland title left behind you. 2021 was certainly All-Ireland title left behind and left to rue scoring just 1 goal from six attempts in the All-Ireland final.

For the record last Sunday Mayo started with one U21 All Ireland winner in Diarmuid O'Connor. They also started with two U20 All Ireland runners up in Ryan O'Donoghue,Jordan Flynn.

The rest Darragh Beirne,Eoin McGreal All-Ireland semi exit at U20. Other and remaining 10 didn't win a Connacht U20 hence no All-Ireland series matches highlighing the player development they did even without those players winning trophies at U20 level.

A couple of recent posts would tend to indicate that Roscommon are not ambitious enough. However Roscommon are one of the most ambitious GAA counties in Ireland. Look at the team Mark Dowd assembled last year. Jason Sherlock was a coach to probably the best team of all time and no doubt learned a huge amount from Jim Galvin, Pat Gilroy etc over the years. Mickey Comerford our S&C coach was head of sports performance with the Kilkenny hurling team when they won several All Irelands. Diarmuid Murtagh, Enda Smith etc sincerely believe that they will win a senior All Ireland with Roscommon. However we have to be realistic also. Roscommon were 150/1 at the start of the year to win an All Ireland, they are down to 20/1 for next year which shows a vast improvement and shows we have a chance if we perform.

Serious ambition can also be seen at county board level:
* Major fund raising over the years by Club Rossie.
* Comprehensive development of Hyde Park.
* Site selected and major funding achieved for the Centre of Excellence.

Our ambitions have also being fully/partially achieved on the football pitch.
* Senior/ Under 20/Minor Connacht champions
* Ladies teams appearing in three All Ireland Finals.

We have to get the balance right. It has been a great year for Roscommon GAA teams. Hopefully it will continue in Croke Park tomorrow and next year.

Watched the Brigid's game on clubber yesterday and great to see Ben O Carroll, Conor Hand, and Darragh Heneghan in form. Niall Heneghan (last year under 20) was impressive at midfield and could be a serious option for the seniors this year. Hopefully a few more of the under 20 team will also step up and give Mark O'Dowd food for thought.

Good post and I wouldn't disagree with you. I think there is a point though that there were huge celebrations in Roscommon on May 10 after winning the Connacht title. Thereafter Roscommon narrowly lost to Tyrone and put in a terrible performance against Monaghan. Next year, I really don't care if we win Connacht. The provincials titles are not what they were anyway with the current championship structure. Next year I want Roscommon to get to Croke Park and aim to win the All Ireland. And like the Leitrim man posting here, I think Roscommon will kick on in 2027. While it is hard to swallow the green and red around Ballaghaderreen, Mayo's All Ireland win is good for Connacht football. I have great hopes for Roscommon over the next few years.
