The Dubs under Gavin were super but the opposition were nt that strong.

Tyrone imo played against better teams.Kerry were strong as were Cork and Armagh .
The Dublin team that went on to great things were destroyed by both Kerry and Tyrone in 08 and 09.Now Im aware that it was all their players but in Dubs era Kerry were weak and Mayo should have beatrn them twice at least but decisions went against them. This was a Mayo team that lost to Kerry Kildare Galway and Roscommon.

No doubt the Dubs were the best team in their era.No arguement but one cant say best ever.In fact If I had to bet then the Tyrone team of the noughties would beat them hands down.
The Dubs were super but only in their own ets.Tyrone had a much better ceiling imo but came up against much tougher teams."
Get out of town Mick.

The Tyrone and Kerry teams didn't hear the great Dublin teams of 10"s or 20's in 08 or 09.

Was 4 years before Gavin was appointed Dublin manager.

Those Dublin teams retired those Tyrone and Jerry teams then continued to pulverise what came next.

Dublin were the only team of any era to beat every team of vote over nearly decade, doing something that had never been done in the sport before.

Mayo, Kerry, Donegal, Galway , Tyrone, Monaghan, Armagh, Meath, Cork, Derry - who ever multiple times, multiple versions former all Ireland wowed it not.

Tire comment is unnecessary, comparatively the vast majority if Kerry's 39 titles came playing 3/4 games All Ireland seasons. Kerry have regressed since the playing field had been even. That fragile situation or huge historical question marks leaves you on very shaky ground, citing the greatest achievement ever achieved in the game, One your on County failed to do on flater road.

Say Kerry is sick and this defeat will drive them on. Can't see Mayo winning back to back. I think we are going through a phase in Gaelic football where nobody will win back to back for a long time."
They will be sick alright.

As for driving them on… if the opportunity that presented itself before throw in, and again after 16mins didn't drive them on to do back2back then nothing will.

They were out fought and out thought and Mayo were much the better team on the day.

I read that JOC was saying yesterday that Mayo got ALL the marginal calls….

That made me laugh tbh. Things came full circle.

He might want to stay on, but……

It was a brilliant decade of football. Tyrone won 3 in that decade, could have been less , could have been more. Same with Kerry, could definitely have won more and Armagh definitely didn't win enough. This year's championship to me was like the 00s. Brilliant.

A bit revisionist there Mick. That was a super Mayo team in the Dubs 6 in a row era, the current Mayo team have potential but are not as strong now.
You reference Tyrone beating Dublin in 08 and 09, like that's 6 years b4 2015, first of 6.
For example the 2017 Dubs had, Scully, BB, MDMA, KevinMac, Diarmo, Davey Byrne, Paul Flynn Darren Daly, Cormac Costello "All on the Bench"
.

The strength and depth of that squad around 2016-19 was frightening alright. It's a very tricky thing to compare teams of different eras but the 6 in a row squad is for me the greatest team and squad to have played the game. I'm biased of course but we've seen yet again how hard it is to even do back-to-back titles yet those boys did that x 3. And in terms of opposition being weaker or not than the opposition Tyrone faced in the 00s, again all subjective. That Mayo team we faced in 2016 & 17 was immense, the Kerry squad around 2015 had Donaghy, Gooch, JO'D, Geaney, O'Sullivan, Galvin, Marc O'Sé, Sheehan, Tommy Walsh, Moran, Anthony Maher, O'Mahony, Young and I could go on but they were hardly a handy crowd to beat!

My main point Joe is one cant judge different eras so we can only guess.

The Mayo team thst rattled Dublin and shoild have beaten them eerr very good but not siper. They eere beaten and struggled ahainst many othrr teamsin that era but did give the Dubs the jitters.

IMO the Kerry team in the noughties were much better than the Kerry team in the Dubs 6 era and that Kerry team 2010-2019 were nt too far behind the Dubs either. The only contenders v Dubs in their reign teally was Mayo and Kerry.

In the noughties you had a much stronger Kerry team,A top Cork team,a great Armagh team and a super Tyrone team.Cork for example were only beaten by Kerry in the championship ina 6 year period and they beat Kerry twice in Munster and drew 3 times.

Kerry won 5 All Irelands but were beaten by Tyrone and deservedly on 3 occasions.
I just think that Tyrone team were awesome and played in a better era.

Dublin were a super team too and best in their era but we will never know how the games would have transpired between both teams.

If I was picking the best 15 between Tyrone and Dublin there would be some headaches.
Certainties for Dubs would be Cluxton,McCarthy,Fenton,Connolly,
Certainties for Tyrone would be,McMenamin,Conor Gormley,Philly Jordan,KevinHughes,Brian Dooher,Sean Kavanagh,Stephen O Neill,Dooher and of course Peter the Great.
Of course thats just my view.

Sure was Saynothing.
The noughties were so strong though.Cork were a super team that time too but like Armagh underachieved because of Tyrone and Kerry.

Kerry flopped full stop, so it might be time to let the star step up as what more has JOC to offer. It will be a one hit wonder for Mayo but they won't care. By the time they stop celebrating and the backshlapping it could be another 75 years. England in the soccer next to crown the misery

However that is not to take away from the unique challenges involved (especially at amateur level) of defending a title. Those GAA teams that have backed it up, whether they are great or good, certainly deserve special kudos."
Great post Joe.

Kerry disappointed for sure but not sick.
For me it was the easiest loss to take ever and Ive seen Kerry lose alot of finals.Immediately after final whistle my sadness turned to pure joy and elation for Mayo.

I have attended many many All Ireland between hurling and football .I would guess over 50 and I never saw losing supporters celebrating with the victors like last Sunday.Kerry fans hugging Mayo fans afterwards was a joy to behold.

Im thrilled that it is Kerry that Mayo finally beat to end their 75 year old wait.
Its weird to feel so much happiness for another county after a loss but there is a magic to it.

There is a fierce strong bond with Mayo and Kerry and statisically have a very high relations through marriage etc.

Delighted for Mayo.

Kerry won plenty of titles since qualifiers came in and also won under nee rules so no need for the digs User.
Im just giving my opinion that when judging teams one has to factor in how good or bad the opposition are.Its funny because many Dublin folk said Kerry were weak when Dublin reigned yet Dubs struggled with us a few times and were definatley outplayed by Mayo a few times so I think the era was weaker than the noughties where you had 4 or 5 top teams.

Forget about Kerry and I ll ask a question and try think honestly without your Dublin hat on?

Do you think that the Mayo team that Dublin struggled with bigtime and should have been beaten by them at least once were better than the Tyrone team of the noughties.

I know which team most would pick.

Of course you're entitled to your view but you have left 4 players of the year out and they are all from Dublin and how Jack McCaffrey would not be a certainty beats banagher.

You are guilty at looking at the 00's era as great Mick because you were successful, its also known as the era of puke football.

Dublin - just beginning in 2011, finished of that great Tyrone team on a rainy night in Croker in a quarter in 2011 and then the Kerry team in the final was as good as anything in the 00s, in fact again in 2013.

Dublin became boring from 13 - 20 - not because of style of play or their competitiors but becasue of invinicability - they were the greatest.

Its no coincidence the game was more competitive before their regin and after, the game has dropped from theitr level , which means team were and are more evenily matched.

There wasn't a team of significantnce in the country unaccounted for.

I dont know what it is with Kerry, why does every player have to be the GOAT, why does someone who beats Kerry got to be GOAT opposition or a great era, its real chip on your shoulder stuff. Its actually highlights an insecurity.

You are the one being insecure User.I never mentioned the goat. You did.As for teams that beat Kerry,Sure Dubkin beat us in their era as Tyrone in theirs.
I never ever mention the goatas I have always said a believed onw cant judge teams from different eras.
I have said that long before Dubs won a fantastic 6 in a row.

Samw with the cats and Limerick in the hurling or the great Cork team of the 70s.
Kerry won 5 all irelands in the noughties and they were nt even team of the decade.Tyrone were and Kerry number two.
You can only ever be the best in your era.Its like boxers.Evander Holyfield won away more titles than Muhammed Ali but was he better?
We dont know and never will as they fought different fighters mostly.Anyway we l agree to disagree and for now its Mayo s time fair play to them and its great for football.
