Too much of this GOAT stuff going on. Just enjoy them for what they are. Artists of their craft. You can't really compare players of a decade apart, never mind generations. Impossible to say again bur yes IMO he is the best in his era. David was asked after last years All Ireland and i think It was Damien Lawlor asked how do you feel when you hear people say you re the greatest.David s reply was brilliant.He said something like "I dont take much notice as I think people are coming out with those comments and not coming from the right place.They are trying to build you up so they can knock you down" I kind of agree and posters who start a thread like this would probably love David to be knocked down. The greatest I have ever seen..We saw him come up through minor and win two All-Irelands almost on his own. Then to come up to senior, get even better and win two more All Irelands that Kerry definitely would not have won without him.. 2021 he went off injured against tyrone and Kerry lost that semi final. Its the headaches he give opposing teams and managers...how do we deal with this guy...how do we plan?? if the plan to thwart Clifford doesnt work (which it rarely does) then you simply lose that game most of the time. The energy needed to negate him is huge because you cant mark him. Apart from his incredible footballing skills his vision to put through a pass to open a defence is something special. He has also played many years under the old rules, now in new rules and getting better so there is no player comparable to him in.my own humble opinion. I concur. I think some people like to build David Clifford up so they can knock him down. I get your point Sligo and of course most are genuine but I will explain. Before the 23 final there were constant people saying David was unmarkable etc but these people only started talking like this 2 weeks before the final. Likewise last year before the All Ireland final the talk started again and it was like non stop "Clifford is the GOAT. Now funny enough alot of those people were nt shouting from the rooftops after the final where he had a great game and got POTY again. When David was asked how does he feel when he hears that talk about the goat etc ,he said that he does nt take it seriously because he feels some of it is nt coming from the right place and he felt there might be an agenda behind it. I agree. Now even on here you have a poster coming up with this thread and I believe its not coming from the right place either. Of course pundits that praise him during start of the year or end of the year are genuine as are many buy there are those with an agenda. Even a few posters here non stop praising Kerry and David last year were nt to be heard of again when Kerry won and David got poty. Just enjoy him. Like all the Fabolous players before him that stood out. When he is finished he'll be the bench mark for the next. The game changes, the science changes, the rules change.
