Why didn't the Sunday game talk about the thrown bottle at the Tyrone manager? You could see the mark in his interview Kew (Galway) - Posts: 325 - 14/06/2026 22:41:43 2679677 Link 1 |

If it had been the other way around, it would probably have been brought up. ?! Terrible to see and not enough being made of it tbh. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 15/06/2026 11:49:11 2679817 Link 0 |

Tomas O Se arguing for Hawkeye at every championship venue was just mind boggling stuff. Some grounds simply couldn't have HE due to infrastructure and the cost of it in one venue is close to €500,000, imagine the GAA spending €16m on HE just in case an umpire makes a mistake now and then. Thought Tomas had a bit more sense Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2678 - 15/06/2026 15:41:01 2679946 Link 0 |

I'd first like to know who threw the bottle. Someone must have seen them and should have reported it to staff. It was either a Tyrone supporter or a Mayo supporter. Was it meant for O Rourke? Nobody knows.

There is regular discussion in the GAA world about introducing a third-tier football competition. This at a time when the Tailteann cup is being pushed to the side. No hightlights of the quarter finals over the weekend, instead they showed matches which were shown live earlier in the day. wicklowsupport (Wicklow) - Posts: 2237 - 15/06/2026 18:04:08 2680018 Link 0 |

I agree,I dont watch analysis either,I turn down the sound too on the hurling,Brendan Cummins shouting is annoying and its time Ger Canning retired.

Watching matches with no sound is bizarre. The crowd noise, commentator describing the action and general match day sounds adds to the atmosphere of the occasion Each to their own but I would find that weird

They were on the Saturday game on the player. Sunday game was the Sunday matches.

Quite a bit of the analysis of the Louth v Armagh game on The Sunday Game was taken up with discussing the lack of a hooter, a match time clock and Hawkeye at the venue. Having Hawkeye at every county ground would cost €16 million. It's not feasible. I was at the game in Inniskeen and I didn't hear a hooter. However given the absolute pandemonium that broke out after the goal was scored that is understandable. What is unacceptable is for the Sunday Game commentators and panellists to say is that there was no match time clock present at the venue when there was a match time clock present showing exactly how much time had gone in the match. I took a photo of Sam Mulroy taking on Joe McElroy just before Sam shot .The match time clock is very clearly visible and says 69:56. It was very sloppy of RTÉ to spread misinformation on such an important issue. Greengrass (Louth) - Posts: 6202 - 16/06/2026 18:51:46 2680228 Link 1 |

I heard the hooter, the ball was in the air,I'm definitely saying nobody on the pitch wud of heard it, but it's just typical of Rte to have none of the proper facts before sprouting out complete waffle......

Listening to Ger Canning when Louth stole that game at the death will go down as one of the highlights of the 26 championship and probably of many years. We will miss him when he retires. Cummins did it call what a man for hurling

For gers faults hes much better than marty morrissey. Marty is great for the post match interviews with winning players because lads will have the crack with marty and open up. However hes a terrible commentator. Gets obvious thing's wrong and gets too excited over run of the mill scores

Yes it was the most excited I have heard him commentating in many years. He is the best gaa commentator rte still have, apart from Padraig Lodge

I think they all have their strengths and Maloney not mentioned is as good as is out there. Its only recently I realised and appreciate the homework that these commentators have done on the players and instantly know all their names, their scoring/appearances record, what club they are from, injury history etc. etc. and to be able to rattle off all these facts at a seconds notice is remarkable albeit with the aid of some notes. We still have the old guard in the commentators unlike the Sunday game which I find unwatchable now so Im hoping marty or ger dont retire anytime soon.

RTE badly need fresh blood on that front... when MO'H (RIP) retired they never 'replaced' him (in fairness tough ask but still). Not a fan of the current rota of GAA commentators.

Good as that was you should listen to Colm Corrigan's commentary on LMFM before, during and after that goal. He's unbelievable. We're lucky to have him.

Pat was a bit of craic. He didn't take himself too seriously and is still entertaining on the independent podcast. Joe could be funny, but he had a personality where he could give it out, but was very thin skinned if he got anything back. He also made things quite personal and clearly had a few agendas with some players, managers and counties which coloured a lot of his thoughts. He used to go well overboard with some of his stuff. He has a style where he exaggerates significantly to make a point, which is fine to a point, but it often got to the stage where he'd be describing things which never happened, just to make his argument.
