Danny McCartan would be my choice. Keep the three men inside with pace.

Easy solution - fly home, Ronan O'Toole start him, get Heslin out of retirement and bring him on as an impact sub for the last 10 mins, really isn't rocket science lads.............

We'll be calling on Larry Giles and Ger Heavin next. 2 legends of Westmeath football but i'm not sure the bodies will be up to it now sadly! :-)

Was only a bit of satire but to answer you properly - if those two are out, I'd probably put Danny Mac inside, drop Conor Lynam back to wing-back, and bring Shane Ormsby in at 12 if Luke and Whittaker aren't there

Look, we'll throw him on the 26, but we'll only bring him in if we have a 21-yard free to win the game.

First and foremost best wishes to Luke on his recovery from injury , devastating blow ahead of Sunday , but I have faith in mark and the lads to dig in put the shoulder to the wheel and get the job done , it won't be easy by any means but let's all get out and get behind the lads and make tullamore a sea of maroon and white Sunday IARMHI ABU TheGaaMan77 (Westmeath) - Posts: 81 - 29/04/2026 20:11:02 2669852 Link 4 |

In lukes absence I would play Brandon kelly at full forward with Shane corcoran and Danny mcartin as our 2 corner forwards. Huge lack of experience and guile without him . I'm sure he will be there encouraging the lads on sunday mickcunningham (Westmeath) - Posts: 1970 - 29/04/2026 22:18:18 2669875 Link 0 |

Devastating blow to lose Luke for the season. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Hes entitled to post what he wants on social media but it could have been held off until after Sunday . Keep Kildare guessing I guess. I heard he was 50 50 and wouldnt know until the warm up on Sunday but that confirms it A_Chairde (Westmeath) - Posts: 393 - 29/04/2026 22:21:21 2669876 Link 3 |

Terrible news hearing that the season is over for Luke Loughlin with a serious hamstring tear. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4919 - 30/04/2026 08:36:51 2669899 Link 2 |

Major blow loosing Luke, wish him a speedy recovery. But we have to stay positive, taking out Luke's scores we scored 3-23 against Longford and 4-12 against Meath so we have plenty of scoring power in the team. I know the overall loss is massive as a leader etc but we cannot go to Tullamore with the attitude its over because Luke is out. Hopefully Whitaker will be ok... dec (None) - Posts: 309 - 30/04/2026 11:42:48 2669961 Link 2 |

Condensed season or no condensed season a hamstring off the bone you aren't playing football this year..

He carried a hammer injury into that Meath game. It clearly needed more time to heal. A less condensed season would have given him that time. This is the same injury that our Paul Flynn had. He was never the same player again after it sadly. I really hope Luke returns back to his best. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4919 - 01/05/2026 11:19:17 2670147 Link 0 |

Great win over Meath in the 1/4 finals but it has come at a huge cost for 2 players and maybe 3 who will now miss their club championships.Coror McCormack has a badly broken leg and Luke Loughlin has a bad hamstring injury.Matty Whittaker not 100% either by the sound of things.I suppose these are the breaks you get playing sport but nonetheless it carries a lot of mental stress when you cant be involved on the pitch Bruno@1 (Westmeath) - Posts: 321 - 01/05/2026 13:52:50 2670186 Link 1 |

Apart from a few positional differences you nearly had it Mick. One big change though is Danny McC was left out in favour of Senan Baker. I don't agree with that change but there you go. Other will agree with it. I have nothing personal against Senan Baker but for me he just hasn't been doing it for Westmeath at this level and I am very surprised he is back in. I hope he proves me wrong. Meridian (Westmeath) - Posts: 726 - 01/05/2026 15:13:27 2670217 Link 0 |
