Replying To yew_tree: "How are Galway closer in reality? This debate is really sad actually….which teams comes closer without actually winning it. History only remembers winners." If history only remembers winners, why do Mayo get so slagged off for losing finals?

I'm against multiple users but there is a narrative out there that every WUM is now really from mayo….its coming from two counties in particular.

I have a soft spot for both Galway and mayo tbh and for me Galway built brilliantly underage in the end of the 2010s when mayo seniors where flying, but for me Galway are stagnating a wee bit still relying on Conroy and hoping for comer and Walsh to come in fit, Galway have some super players especially in the middle 8 and roles seem to be slightly reversed as Galway are ahead but mayo are building nicely at underage now, and mayo for all the naysayers are not a kick in the hotel away from any team on there day, I feel they need to play the younger players sooner and stop relying on the older heads, I fully expect it to be a Galway v mayo final in connaght and I look forward to it. If I'd to back a winner now, I'd edge slightly at mayo but no result would suprise me

Replying To tirawleybaron: "Your fairly clutching at straws in the claim that Galway are closer in reality. Closer to what? Another All Ireland defeat?
It was there for Galway to win it in 2024 and they bottled it scoring on 13 points against a 1 hit wonder Armagh.
That was the peak of that team and they wont get over the line now.
The reality of Galway and Mayo is that Connacht titles don't matter at all. With 15 AL Ireland final loses each - they should be measuring themselves against Kerry, not each other." Galway also have 9 all Ireland wins though. Mayo have 3. Ultimately that's what both are measuring each other against.
Your previous comment was saying there's nothing between Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. I get you may be getting caught up in a bit of hype, running up the score on Monaghan and a Roscommon B team, but that still seems a bit optimistic at this point?
Mayo haven't made a quarter final since 2023. Even the last two quarter finals they made, they were absolutely hockeyed out the gate. Galway have been in two finals in that time. Even last year, a year where Galway barely played well once, they still won Connacht and were a point away from a semi final. Mayo limped through (and out) of Connacht and got knocked out at the first all Ireland stage. They haven't won a Connacht in a long time
Roscommon have had a great league and have huge promises but got hammered by a makeshift Galway team in Connacht last year and like Mayo, haven't made a semi final in a long time. So again , they'll have to make a big jump to get to the point you're suggesting
Both of those teams years will be geared around stopping Galway winning 5 in a row. Galway's sights, rightly or wrongly, will be set upon making quarter and semi finals

This is the original point I'm referring to 'The reality under the new rules is you cant call who will win between Roscommon, Galway or Mayo on a given day. The problem for all three is they are not in the top bracket of teams"
That suggests that all 3 counties are relatively equal standing into 2026. And can completely ignores the recent history of each team. It's completely normal to treat each county in the context of that comment
Nothing personal but you try to present yourself as a mature poster amidst the sea of childish mayhem that is your local counterparts. However the veneer of abjectivity slips quite markedly at times

Nobody in Mayo thinks we will win an all Ireland this year or next. What we are looking for is progress. Some tipped us for relegation so league was a massive success. A Connacht title win and a good showing after that would be a great year in my opinion. Won't be easy but it's achievable.
