Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "All you educated chaps on here that know everything about everything hadn't the wit to know that once Iran was attacked the Strait of Hormuz was going to be blocked and the price of oil was going to sky rocket.
I bet that great man in the White house and his cronies as you call them were well ahead of the game and made a monetary killing from it, also the Russians are profiting big time selling their oil at higher prices now.
These fellas you all love to hate may just be very smart men behind the bluster that confounds the woke types."
I think you are either deliberately missing the point, have your head in the sand, or just click baiting. The truth is, the dogs in the streets knew that the Straits of Hormuz would be endangered by Iran if attacked. They have never denied they would do it. After all, it's their key trump card, if you will pardon the pun. We will never know who decided to kick it off - probably Israel. Just can't believe anything out of the White House anymore. Suffice to say, we will all be living with the consequences for years.

So, the Saudis now see a chance for themselves to become top dog in the region. They have been angling towards that for a while.

We seem to be experiencing two different realities at the moment. POTUS is convinced we are on the verge of entering dreamland and the Iranians continue spraying the region with missiles - which we were told were all "gone". With the rumours of boots on the ground, could it be that there is the emergence of an organised opposition internally who have promised all things that Mr T wants and the old regime committed to standing firm. Time will tell.

That's a good point. There is a separation between the Revolutionary Guard and the day to day government. The former would be more militant but there are undoubtedly people in administration who would probably do one the famous deals Trumps revels in.

Israel has no interest in such a thing. They will decide what to do themselves and usually the only beneficiary of that are themselves as they clearly couldn't care less about anyone else including their "allies."

Iran are really playing Trump at his own game. Sean Hannity and Jesse Watters (two morally corrupt journalists if ever there was) are going to self combust and it will be hilarious to watch.

The Wee little Province have a tough assignment in Rome tonight v Italy but there is always a chance!
The Republic will face a Czech team that won't be as generous as the Hungarians were!

Best of luck to the lads but, as you point out, this will be no walk in the park

Why do a lot of our mainstream [RTE/ Virgin] media refer to the Ireland football team as The Republic of Ireland ? Surely just Ireland is enough .You could understand media outside the country doing this but the Irish media. I always find it so cringey. In any other context [political , economic etc] The Republic of Ireland is rarely use to describe the country. Then there is the odd time just The Republic is used. Even more cringey. So is it asking too much for these reporters to drop [The Republic] out of Ireland ?

A big ask surely but if we play with the spirit of the last two games we've a decent chance of a win tonight.

The North and South governments need to get together and make these matches available in the North. Only for the dodgy box we are goosed.

The Republic blew a great opportunity to win.....0-2 up looking comfortable against a fairly ordinary Czech side.

A very disappointing night for Irish soccer but in a way it made be so proud and grateful of our own national games. Soccer has turned into a corrupt, diving, cheating game. Absolutely disgraceful what I witnessed there tonight. Yes Ireland let a lead slip twice but come on…Denmark will trounce those jokers into the ground.

So sick after that match. 2-0 up. 1-0 up in the penalties. Needlessly giving away a penalty when the ball was bouncing out of bounds, etc. Sick to my stomach. Sigh.

But no need for O'Donoghue and the rest to be coming out with it.
Remember the days when they were "Jack Charlton's Republic of Ireland side"?

Way to much overconfidence pre match. Thousands travelling without tickets and all. Players mums etc on news in tears. Like we won the world cup.
Hard luck to them but overconfidence is a killer and us from mayo of all know that for sure .

It was a really poor quality soccer game. Exciting yes, plenty of effort from both sides too, but really poor quality. I don't think either side were capable of stringing more than 5 passes together? Was like watching a LoI div 1 game.

100%. They should have kicked on but retreated for too long in the second half. Memories of O'Neill's time when they sat back too much to try and grind out results. They did very well to get to the playoffs from their group. But, besides Caoimhín, there isn't massive quality in that squad.
Hallgrímsson has improved them and deserves another campaign.
