I think you are either deliberately missing the point, have your head in the sand, or just click baiting. The truth is, the dogs in the streets knew that the Straits of Hormuz would be endangered by Iran if attacked. They have never denied they would do it. After all, it's their key trump card, if you will pardon the pun. We will never know who decided to kick it off - probably Israel. Just can't believe anything out of the White House anymore. Suffice to say, we will all be living with the consequences for years.

So, the Saudis now see a chance for themselves to become top dog in the region. They have been angling towards that for a while. Freethinker (Wicklow) - Posts: 2175 - 24/03/2026 15:18:41 2662895 Link 1 |

We seem to be experiencing two different realities at the moment. POTUS is convinced we are on the verge of entering dreamland and the Iranians continue spraying the region with missiles - which we were told were all "gone". With the rumours of boots on the ground, could it be that there is the emergence of an organised opposition internally who have promised all things that Mr T wants and the old regime committed to standing firm. Time will tell. Freethinker (Wicklow) - Posts: 2175 - 25/03/2026 09:57:58 2663031 Link 0 |

That's a good point. There is a separation between the Revolutionary Guard and the day to day government. The former would be more militant but there are undoubtedly people in administration who would probably do one the famous deals Trumps revels in. Israel has no interest in such a thing. They will decide what to do themselves and usually the only beneficiary of that are themselves as they clearly couldn't care less about anyone else including their "allies." Iran are really playing Trump at his own game. Sean Hannity and Jesse Watters (two morally corrupt journalists if ever there was) are going to self combust and it will be hilarious to watch. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11982 - 25/03/2026 15:27:06 2663127 Link 1 |

Why do a lot of our mainstream [RTE/ Virgin] media refer to the Ireland football team as The Republic of Ireland ? Surely just Ireland is enough .You could understand media outside the country doing this but the Irish media. I always find it so cringey. In any other context [political , economic etc] The Republic of Ireland is rarely use to describe the country. Then there is the odd time just The Republic is used. Even more cringey. So is it asking too much for these reporters to drop [The Republic] out of Ireland ? edu (Mayo) - Posts: 122 - 26/03/2026 17:28:33 2663375 Link 1 |

A big ask surely but if we play with the spirit of the last two games we've a decent chance of a win tonight.

The North and South governments need to get together and make these matches available in the North. Only for the dodgy box we are goosed. Saynothing (Tyrone) - Posts: 2593 - 26/03/2026 20:38:20 2663389 Link 2 |
