A lot of people outside Connacht don't believe in the 'Roscommon in the long grass' phenomenon. Believe me it exists! They're not quite in the long grass after a very good league under a manager they're all playing for. Yesterday's result was an outlier based on their league form and with a weakened team. Rather than talk about how well Dowd has done without St Brigid's players he now has a very good squad of players fighting to start. Comes across as calm and professional in interviews. Should be saying maybe less of the returning Brigids players might be good enough to start. The Connacht championship game will be a cracker. Yesterday will have no bearing on that.

Look what happened yesterday happened. Mark dowd definitely didn't tell the players not to put in n a proper performance. One thing we found out is few of the lads around the panel who aren't good enough. They are brilliant club players but not good enough for county. I still think when we get our strongest 15 on the pitch we will have a right go at beating mayo. People are saying stack is back training then others saying he's not back? We really need him back for championship dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1380 - 23/03/2026 10:46:14 2662455 Link 0 |

Wasn't a weak Mayo team. Jack Coyne, Rory Brickenden, Sam Callinan, David McBrien, Jack Carney,Ryan O'Donoghue,Jordan Flynn and Aidan O'Shea who started yesterday who will all likely start again should we meet again next month. Then you had good young players playing along side that strong spine in Hugh O'Loughlin,Séamus Howard two of your stand out players at U20 level last year and Cian McHale who was one the best forwards in the Sigerson cup. Also worth factoring in you were off the back of a heavy defeat where a big reaction was seeked and obtained. It was collectively than individually was our main issue yesterday, the amount of changes brought about a system meltdown that had us in 6s and 7s in defence we had the look of a team that didn't even train with that starting 15 prior to the match. Basic errors and cheap turnovers played a huge part in our heavy defeat thankfully we didn't play like that against Monaghan,Galway,Armagh,Donegal or I would be talking about a league campaign with zero points than 8 points. I think we all know it won't be that easy in five weeks time (no disrespect to London or NY). That game coming down the line will be tight and hard fought. Yesterday is gone, the league is gone. It has zero bearing in my opinion. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11969 - 23/03/2026 13:57:13 2662533 Link 0 |

Not sure about biggest fan but how can one not be admirer of a county of their size and resources to have comfortably retained Division one status and stood toe to toe with Galway,Armagh,Donegal and Kerry in this league campaign. Now stay humble Ms Kennedy. Drax_the_destroyer (UK) - Posts: 718 - 23/03/2026 15:57:37 2662598 Link 1 |
