What's the word on the Dublin hurlers coming in to Saturday?

I'm fully behind Ger and his backroom team. Patience is needed and it's encouraging to hear about the effort being made and the wide scope of players being looked at. Would hope the Dubs can produce a competitive and well put together team, one that's fully capable of beating anyone on the day. That'll do. What came before had never been seen in the history of the GAA, it wasn't normal. So we are back to a sort of 2010 level again but just like in 2010, there's a sniff of potential in the air, just get stuck in and see if its good enough.

Meath only a short trip to Croke park and yet they were one of the worst supported teams there for years.Pot and kettle methinks.

No word on team yet. Still a few injuries lingering. Expect it will be similar to 25 v Clare. No word on the Curries or Hedger yet.

Still a strong panel that's going well.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how our lads get on. The performance is probably more important than the result for us right now so hopefully a good close game and I'll be in good form to hang on for the football

A lot has changed since Covid tbh. It really knocked the **** out of a lot of things.
Only recently are things and people really getting anywhere near back to the way it was pre Covid.

With the lower crowds now going to Dublin games it is just a pity we dont have a stadium of our own to cater for say 20,000 fans. Cant see any stadium development happening now....

Ah the game has changed a lot. The 2 point rule needs a couple of tweaks but it is the biggest game changer imo.
A lot of teams have really taken advantage of it, whereas we look like we are new to it in comparison.

As I have said many times, we took our eye off the ball at underage.
We have very little coming through. Shockingly very little.
It will be about 5 years before we see a big improvement there.

Interesting listening to Ger's post match interview where he seems prepared to take the risk of relegation if it means a better run in Leinster. And I fully agree with him on this. We just need to be patient with him I guess and trust the process.

A few of the regular diehards still go to the Hill, even in atrocious conditions. I have to admit I much prefer the previous GAA calendar. Absolutely no room for injuries now at all, with the condensed season.

I think our Hurlers have the right man in charge. Really hope we can win another Leinster in Hurling.
And I wouldnt be one bit surprised if we win a Leinster Hurling title before another Leinster Football title..
Now who would have thought that a couple of years ago.. Times have really changed... ;o)"
It's wild to think that Dublin supporters would have dropped off so much in such a short space of time, I was taken aback at the double header last weekend as was expecting the Dublin fans to start flooding in after our game but it never happened. This is something that's endemic in GAA in general, speaking from experience of following Meath around the country for years, some of our attendances through the 2010/20s were in the hundreds not thousands. I've always felt GAA supporters outside of the hardcores are incredibly fickle, and will just stop going to games/following the team if the success isn't there, but what that does is just further hurt your county as it impacts players motivation, impacts the desire of the underage players coming through and the "I wouldn't even watch them if they were playing out in the back garden" mentality festers through a county.

And yet, when the momentum comes back into a team all these fans start flooding back like nothing happened, it's the case with Meath now where we're on a good trajectory and don't get me wrong it's great to have some atmosphere at games but does annoy me that fans just want to be there for the good times, that's not how sport works, your team is your team regardless of where they're at, and if people can't be bothered to follow them in the bad times they don't deserve them in the good times.

Dublin are on a bit of a low eb at the minute but besides maybe the player development, it seemed fairly clear last year Dessie Farrell had his end in sight and wasn't willing to adapt to the new rules and I think that's set yous back, we adopted the new rules straight away as O'Rourke left the team with no structure or plan so was easy for us and that's a part of why we did well last year.

I don't actually think Dublin are as poor as people are saying as there's still a lot of good players on that team and no subsequent team could ever follow the success of that 2010s/20s one. Having that Meath/Dublin rivalry of old is what we all want and I don't think it's a million miles away.

Looks like lads are starting to come back for you! 1/4 is silly odds on Dublin. I'd make us maybe 4/5 on recent form and home gig. Expecting a close one.

As for the football, if hurlers win I'll be staying; if they lose I might very well repair to Gills! Not an unusual pattern.
