He has potential. He's not even an adult. How can he be a generational talent?

Not really cavanagh Murphy Walsh mcshane Clifford all turned it down. Kilkenny mcdaid came back after trying it out. Very few are good enough to make it as there's so many Aussies lads who played since a young age less risk then signing Irish kids jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1728 - 04/11/2025 09:44:48 2642921 Link 0 |

It is terrible what has happened to Ciaran. He got hit with a proposed 96 week ban which was later correctly overturned. He seems to have just lost the Grá for the game now which is very sad to see. https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/gaelic-football/former-dublin-star-ciaran-archer-has-proposed-96-week-ban-overturned/a200451781.html Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4715 - 04/11/2025 10:05:49 2642927 Link 0 |

One could argue that most Irish people who excel at any sport outside of the GAA will at some point have their "GAA background" brought up. I'd say a very high percentage of Irish people with any sporting ability will have at some stage played GAA. That doesn't necessarily mean they are "lost to other sports". streaker (Galway) - Posts: 564 - 04/11/2025 10:17:43 2642928 Link 1 |

And what are you going to do about the lifestyle, and weather here, and other reasons lads go to play AFL? WE CANT AFFORD TO GO PRO OR SEMI PRO. We can barely afford to stay going as we are as an amateur(ish) organisation. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 17375 - 04/11/2025 10:58:46 2642940 Link 0 |

I pay to watch games every weekend. And watch plenty more for free. Its nonsense to put that young lad up with lads at a level he's only aspiring to right now. Talk about heaping pressure on a chap.

In fairness - I think Kobe is the real deal. I saw him a few years ago and he was even exceptional then. Let him enjoy his stint in Aus and hopefully he returns at some stage. You cant blame him for taking this opportunity but I do hope we all see him grace Croke Park in the future. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4715 - 04/11/2025 11:36:07 2642952 Link 0 |

We talk about players as if we own them or should have some say in their careers whether on or off the pitch. We don't. We don't own them. We should have absolutely no say in their life choices. The GAA doesn't pay them and at the end of the day they have to carve out a career off the pitch as well. Amateurs that are expected to behave like professionals. They're under enough scrutiny from the zealots without having to deal with guilt trips because they put themselves first. ThePowerhouse (Leitrim) - Posts: 261 - 04/11/2025 11:42:16 2642954 Link 2 |

I suppose it doesn't really matter that much but he'll win very little titles with St Kilda. One premiership in 152 years of existence isnt too hectic alalalalalum (USA) - Posts: 64 - 04/11/2025 14:07:53 2642983 Link 1 |
