Walsh is not in the same class as Clifford and never has been. Clifford is one of the all time greats and Walsh is not.

Is that the end of the road for Conroy, Comer, Walsh and Joyce. jacktheboy (Donegal) - Posts: 488 - 30/06/2025 19:06:08 2622741 Link 0 |
We'd be gone weeks ago, only for Tierney in Derry. I don't like the term flat track bully, it's unnecessarily derogatory. On the subject of player 'form' dropping off in Croker though, I feel that Finnerty is exhibiting at least as much falloff as Tierney at HQ. I think this issue is not unrelated to real pace too. Players with real pace often flourish in Croker. Players like Tierney and Finnerty, who don't have absolute top notch pace imo, might always be challenged to flourish in Croker.

Yee could have won a game and stayed in the group but didn't. Meath beat Cork and Kerry and Roscommon got beat by both. That's fact. 5 two-pointers in 2 half and still couldn't score with the wind for last 15 minutes - save me breath on Rossies Royalio11 (Meath) - Posts: 802 - 30/06/2025 20:28:13 2622757 Link 0 |
Some ppl, no more than yourself, aren't happy unless they're miserable! I'm glad Galway lost yesterday, those players need a well earned rest.

Why are people on about mcgeeney? Did he have a great bunch of players early on? It's completely different why didn't Roscommon keep Davy burke for 10 years?

I would totally disagree on finnerty his assist for mcdaid goal was outstanding also very clever creating the mchugh goal chance. Was on one leg for games last year but would still argue did ok in croker games jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1612 - 30/06/2025 21:41:46 2622766 Link 1 |
Roscommon still needed to avoid defeat against Cork even had they beaten Meath and as Robbie Brennan said himself afterwards Meath was left thankful Roscommon missed a host of chances in the final ten minutes.

Regarding my earlier post, I wasn't trying to do down Donál O'F. He is an excellent manager. However, I am nearly sure that he said he wouldn't be interested in senior inter county management on an appearance he made on the Maroon and White podcast. Hence, my statement that there isn't a better option currently within Galway. gaillimhboy (Galway) - Posts: 374 - 30/06/2025 22:38:27 2622776 Link 0 |

Worked that out by yourself. Aptly named and original.

First if Joyce wants to stay on that would be my first pick. I don't think we've been really badly beaten tactically by any team since 2021. 2022 just ran out of gas, 2023 goal finishing let down, 2024 general scoring, this year too many unforced errors. Too early for gary. I heard OB in for a different line but not sure if that particular rumor is true. O Brien if he wants it I would be in favour. Johnson I really like he's really personable wants to get on with all the lads which is a different management style. He's only over the road in turloughmore so he'd jump at being involved. Definitely needs to be a Galway man. Thought PJ and the rest of lads did that very well basically everyone there is a Galway head or otherwise closely connected. Outside managers will charge too much and the last thing we need is to throw too much money at a new manager. systematic (Galway) - Posts: 226 - 30/06/2025 23:42:55 2622785 Link 2 |
Walsh is not in same league as Clifford not many are. He is also behind O Shea & Con. He has had one great performance in Croker against Kerry in 22 and yet Clifford still outshone him on got Kerry over the line. At least he went to kilmacud to win is All Ireland he could not even "carry" Kilkerrin to an intermediate title.

Our very talented roster of forwards, both starters and bench, don't know how to cohesively attack on a consistent basis. That's down to management. They're not a well oiled, well drilled unit. That's down to management. If they were, I think they'd shoot the lights out but instead they're told to start steadily, hold possession, recycle, play across the arc repeatedly. That's down to management. I've said it consistently last year that Scan as a forwards coach is simply not up to par. He's nowhere near it. I said repeatedly that we need a first class forwards coach otherwise our AI ambitions were no more than a pipe dream. But PJ and himself are thick as thieves back to Jarlath's days and nothing can prize them apart it seems! These forwards, the odd time they took it on themselves to have a real cut in order to save games, showed what they're capable of in short bursts - but PJ and Scan hobbled them, the Final last year and this year's first half against Meath being prime example of incredibly poor advise to and coaching of forwards. We couldn't have played into the oppositions hands more. Not smart enough to win All Irelands, Connacht is this management's ceiling. Of course those Connacht titles were a joy to win but this group of players were capable of more. 6 years is too long. Thank you but really time to make way. togoutlads (Galway) - Posts: 1086 - 01/07/2025 10:01:28 2622818 Link 1 |
to make it clear, walsh was never as good as clifford. that one final performance perhaps but there's no comparison and unfair on walsh.
