As difficult as it was this year I feel it will have stood to the likes of David O'Reilly, Peter Clarke, David Williams, Eamonn Cunneen, Darragh McCormack, Conor Gaffney, David Hickey, Shane Williams and Mark Cunningham. I expect them to come on leaps and bounds by the time next season comes around. They all showed their quality at times but inexperience cost them. Plenty of talent there under the age of 23 which I dont believe some of the counties around our level are overly blessed with for example Carlow who have a lovely team now, I believe most of their lads are pushing on. What our young lads need now is a couple of seasons at Joe Mcdonagh realistically to develop physically guided by your Killian Doyles, Darragh Egertons and Niall Mitchells. Kevin O'Brien has been working very hard with our underage squads and knows what's coming through, I think he would be the right man to get things going again. There's enough talent there to work with and I dont believe we are what we showed this year, far far better than that and from watching some of our underage teams we've talent coming through to work with in the years ahead too. The county board made a mistake with the appointment this year which can happen but thankfully we've retained our Joe Mcdonagh status and plenty of time to rectify and improve.

Good man Chick.. Somehow I don't think a handful of anonymous posters on here will sway a county board. Whoever gets it good luck to him and he will have our best wishes to do well.

The notion of anyone being guided on physical preparation by the first named shows you have potential to succeed Conor Moore!!!
Apart from that lots of sense and optimism.

Well the first named has been our best player for the last few years in fairness. Physical preparation is something we fell short on massively this year obviously, we need a lot of work in that department.

Should never have been appointed as was said several times on this thread over the last year. Hopefully the county board make the correct appointment now.

Absolutely and this time the appointment must be backed by the hurling clubs or not appointed.

As expected. A rebuilding job needed and we're likely to be short on willing candidates.

Who are the likely candidates ? Internal or external ?

I see that Crookedwood have planning permission for a new facility at Taughmon. With training pitch and astro included. Should be good for the local school too.

It just seems odd to be going ahead when you could probably look over two adjacent fields into Clonkill.

I hope it's a positive for the club. They've needed amalgamations and have dropped off in recent years. Anything to see hurling clubs kick on is a bonus.

Perhaps we should get their planning committee to work with county board and show them how it's done :)

Any truth in talk that Davy Fitzgerald is coming to Westmeath, not that far from his base.

like it or not every hurler in the county would come out to play for Davy and be in that set up. I fear after bulfin many of the more senior players may walk away like Niall o brien or the grevilles or joe boyle as they've given many years of service.

County is cash strapped already. No need for a mercenary like Davy. His recent managerial record is shocking overseeing Waterford to relegation from Division 1 and Antrim relegated from Liam Mc.

In fairness Waterford didn't get relegated, they just didn't make the top tier. Our win down there sealed that pretty much. Ourselves and Clare did get relegated this year.
