Just saw the Meath match winning goal on social media. Ball kicked in caught and kicked to the net is that allowed on the hooter?

Replying To katser:  "I remember when Donegal won the All Ireland.....
They beat the Dubs in the Semi Final......it was great the way they sickened Dublin with the smothered blanket defence but jez it was mentally draining watching Donegal with everyone behind the ball and just keeping it amongst them self.
Good tactics if you keep the ball the opposition can't score and win by 0-08 to 0-06!"
Your memory is mixed up.That was 2011 All Ireland SF, Dublin won that game 0-08 - 0-06, both teams parked the bus (Donegal took the full blame though), and Dublin won the All Ireland in a relatively low scoring final against Kerry.

Donegal won the All Ireland the following year in 2012 in impressive and entertaining style, and then in 2014 beat Dublin 3-14 - 0-17 points in the All Ireland SF.

Replying To katser:  "Well I will say one thing for certain.....there is no chance Tyrone, Armagh or Derry will win the All Ireland this year.
In my opinion it's Galway, Kerry or Donegal. 3 horse race!"
Nah, its a 6 horse race, with Armagh, Mayo and Dublin very much in the picture along with Galway, Donegal and Kerry. Its near impossible to pick any of those, when any of the others could probably beat them on any given day.

I think Tyrone and Derry have the players, but both have new management teams and will need a another season to build properly.

Anyone from Division 1 can win Sam. Tyrone certainly can if they play for 70 minutes.

You could probably throw a few more in there too, it's very wide open and the new rules have opened it right up.

Plus the last 2 All Ireland winners have come from Division 2. .. Anyone in Division 1 can win the all Ireland and a couple in division 2 can cause a few headcaches too.

Yes Sir, I stand corrected!

Still not convinced by Armagh, Mayo or Dublin as contenders for the "race" yet, but is there a renaissance going on with Meath.....I think they could get promoted to Div 1 and could be a good bet to win Leinster this year!

can't be after the hooter - another tweak needed.

I think the ref give them the goal just because he kicked it it and didn't dive over the line like a certain Leinster final a few year back.

As a Meath supporter, I wouldn't get too carried away yet. The team have improved a lot and are much better coached this year, but the gap with the top teams was huge. probably still is .

I agree that Tyrone have the players, i just don't think they have got their team balanced yet when at full strength. I have no doubt they can scalp top sides, but I haven't seen enough yet to suggest they have the consistency to win the All ireland. Is it possible? Yes, Is it highly likely? I doubt it.

Now that is based on last years League and Championshop and this years league.

Was at the match yesterday and where I was no one around me (including Westmeath supporters) heard the hooter because of the roar for the goal.So that would mean it didn't go before Duke shot for goal but whether it went off as it was just going in or not I cant say for sure.

Ya id agree with the gap between division 2 and 1 is bigger than I thought it was. Just watching games from both divisions and imo all division 1 teams would have handy wins against any division 2 team. Derry are bottom of division 1 but would give a good beating to Roscommon meath or Monaghan at the moment

Westmeath manager has said the goal was scored three seconds after the hooter. If that game was covered live I'm thinking a lot more would be made of it. Lucky win in the end for Meath in a match would would have expected them to win pulling up.

Derry would fit right in at Div 2 at moment with the way they are defending. Would be no guarantee they would get promoted either matter of fact they had to settle for 3rd place in div 2 in 2022 and they were better then with a better manager than they currently are.

Absolutely bizarre thing to bring up when talking about a league game in 2025

As part of the 1996 Fatwa every Mayo person can say what they like about Meath Gaelic Football no matter how bizarre. Colm Coyle started it!

Meath v Monaghan is practically Div 2 Semi Final with the winner guaranteed promotion.
I'm going on record stating Meath for promotion and Meath v Kildare Leinster Final!

If the goal (westmeath v meath)was scored one second after the time elapsed then it should not stand and the match should be recorded as a draw.Time for the gaa to do the right thing. Should be easy to look at video evidence or at least attempt to, and to update both teams.I haven't been at a game this year that i haven't been confused so my sympathy is with the refs.Imagine trying to recruit referees now.And more chaos is coming down the line.

Once the hooter goes shouldn't they just play on till ball goes dead again like in union and league will avoid the controversy

The Westmeath manager said to Rte he couldn't hear anything because of the huge crowd and roar just as I didn't hear it and many others around me.im sure there is probably footage somewhere that might clear it up but if going down that road we might as well bring in VAR.Personaly my opinion would be if they want to keep the hooter, when the ball is kicked before the hooter goes and no one else touches it on the way the point or goal should stand or maybe play till the ball goes dead. The GAA need to have clearer rules Haha more rules. i totally understand Westmeaths reaction (I'd be going mad myself) and in fairness we were lucky to come out with the win.I was talking to a few westmeath supporters after it and they said they were more disappointed because they kickvsone poor wides and shouldve been further ahead.
