A win for us would give us a great chance of staying up.

Dreams can only take you so far then reality hits.

Good to see Burns get another shot at corner forward this week. Molloy and McLoughlin on the bench probably competing for same spot. Concannon needs more games to shake off the rust. Garvey and Fleming getting a chance as well.

Looks to be a fine day.

It will be cool but sunny and fairly calm so I hope those of you that travel enjoy the day.

Looking forward to Lee Vs Chin battle. Great to see two top class players going toe to toe.

You've a very good man in charge and are looking sharp this year. Very much looking forward to seeing if we can put two performances together.

Should be two good games in the senior schools hurling semi finals today. Athenry will expect to beat Kierans with the squad they have this year but the game isn't played on paper. They will be fierce disappointed though if they don't win an all ireland this year.

Hard to know how Claregalway match up against Thurles but they will give it a rattle.

Pretty much as expected a comfortable win for Pres Athenry over Kierans. A late goal for Kierans made the scoreline looks respectable

An 8 point win over Kieran's is a very impressive result - hope they go all the way now. Claregalway put up a good fight against Thurles CBS.

Nice road win for Galway v Wexford. It looks like we stay in the top division for another year. Nice to see different lads getting some valuable minutes against a very dogged team in Wexford. We need to work on puck outs badly. Galway Abu.

38 players used now in the league so far

That's great. The more the merrier. Maybe give lads like Conor Whelan less minutes as he's a sure thing as far as starting goes. These minutes are valuable for some of these lads that are on the fence.

Most of the newer faces only in the 1st League game though?

What I'd consider 'new players' not necessariyl debutants:

Tipp: Sean Murphy
Michael Garvey
TJ Brennan (Not new but looking to break into the team)
Donal O Se
Rory Burke
Oisin Lohan
Liam Collins
Shane Morgan
John Fleming
Burns (Brief run off the bench)

Kilkenny:
Shane Morgan
Gavin Lee ( new to CB)
TJ Brennan
FLeming
Tiernan Killeen (Has only really broken into the team this year)
Fleming
John Cooney
McLoughlin (Like Killeen newish)
Burns (Off Bench)

Clare:
Dan Loftus
Lee
Cillian Trayers
Fleming
Killeen
Burns
Morgan

Wexford:

Lee
Garvey
Mcloughlin
Burns
Killeen
Colm Molloy

So I would say the experimentation has decreased gradually as the league has gone on but MD has done a good job of trending towards the championship team while still casting a wide net.

While some of the above are not 'new' exactly, the Likes of Lee and Killeen starting at 6 and 11 is a breath of fresh air. i think one of the big frustrations with Shefflin was that you'd see a wide variety of lads on the Walsh Cup and they would never be backed when the league started not to mind championship. we're still not technically safe so hard to know what way we'll approcah the last 2 games

Good post and you are correct. I would say we are getting close to the championship starting 15 with only 3 or 4 positions in the mixer. Yet to be seen where Cathal Mannion lines out but if I had to guess it would be in the position Concannon was in the last day in the middle 3rd with Concannon then moving to inside forward

Was impressed with some of your new players Saturday thought Michael Garvey , Tiernan Killeen and Declan McLaughlin who has been a few years on the panel but is still young all looked good for you. Looking forward to our trip to Galway In May hopefully it will be another close competitive game

Ah get you now. I wasn't really considering Lee, McLoughlin or Killeen as new, they've been playing Senior games for you for the last 2 or 3 years now. And some of the lads who started against Tipp havent been seen much since. Even Brennan isn't new. Odd that Brennan hasn't made the step up yet, he has all the attributes but hasn't seemed to play a good game at Senior yet.

It's self evident that if TJ had 'all the attributes', he'd be be playing many great games, just like all players who have 'all the attributes'. Perhaps it's logical that some players who delivered a level of performance v Tipp haven't featured since. Why would we keep selecting a team that played very badly?

I agree 100%. I should've said physical attributes, hurling and size. Perhaps it's a mental hang up he has. I've seen him play well for UL. Senior is the next step, the one he has failed to take.
Many young players don't make it. Every county has a minor panel every year with 35 odd lads on it. A good players Senior career might last 10 years. So just by basic maths only around 3 minors per year make it to be top Senior players. At a maximum, considering some lads maybe only make a Senior panel for a few years.

Who would think we would be talking about a possible League Final after the disaster first game v Tipperary, but victory Saturday night and its Galway v Tipperary League Final.....I'd expect Clare to beat Cork in Ennis.

If ever a lad should be given a break and mentality not questioned it should be him in the circumstances
