It's an embarrassment at this stage! We are in 2017! We need a venue that kids aspire to play in! At the moment our county ground is far from that! Why are the raghs holding it up? Do they not want it developed? Dunleer is closer to being a county ground! They have really turned their ground into a great venue to watch games! It's no surprise atall when we have a man at the top who puts all his efforts instead to try and stop small clubs from progressing and opening new facilities for children to use. He's more interested in personal feuds than big county matters. We need him gone after this year bigtime!! gooch13 (Louth) - Posts: 656 - 24/08/2017 20:51:57 2037317 Link 0 |

Fair play to the club, I always liked Dubleer as a venue.

Bluebod, Please inform us why you are so sure that the O'Raghallaigh's are holding up things or where your proof is? You are throwing around accusations again like everytime the County Grounds comes up for discussion. The O'Raghallaigh's are holding up nothing here, there has not been a formal proposal put to the club to determine how much use they can have of the grounds when it has been redeveloped, where they will be playing games in the intern, where club training will be carried out, maintenance plans etc. None of this information has been put to the club, so i'm not sure where you are getting your information from and people in this County would need to take a good hard look at themselves before throwing around the same accusations that have been spread around the same issue everytime it comes up. Put yourself in the clubs position, wouldn't you want to know where you were going to play and train during the re-development and when its completed where they were going to play, train and how much availability they have of the grounds when any Louth team need it for training etc., ahead of games and what does the club do during these times. If its going to be like Darver when you go down to play a game and the pitch nearest the dressing rooms you can't even do a warm-up on the bloody pitch then that won't wash with the club, would you like that to happen in your club. The O'Raghallaigh's do not have an issue with the re-development but they need to be looked after so they are free to run the club like any other is, the club doesn't need it redeveloped but they won't stand in the way either once they are looked after. Once these are put to the club then it will not be the executive that decides whether to accept the proposal but the members and an EGM will be required to more it forward.

Huge issue with communication here D-pats you have to appreciate that as I appreciate it must be seriously frustrating hearing accusations made about your club. I understand development plans are best kept close until a point when projects are close to reality but hearing the O'Raghallaighs have not been not been consulted on the plans or been issued a formal proposal when we have been told Croke Páirc have approved funding seems like madness to me. I always wondered why we stuck with the Gaelic Grounds in Drogheda for the site for our proposed County Grounds as I could never figure out any scenario where a ground with only one full size pitch would be able to cater for a club and county. I mean there isn't even the possibility of the O'Raghallaighs purchasing adjoining land for future development. Was it our own Counties decision to hold onto it and proceed with planning or was it something to do with funding from Croke Park? The only reason that would make sense to me is that they feel they have already used funds allocated to the County in developing the ground in Drogheda, that of course is me assuming the County paid for the stand and some other services / equipment over the years. If the O'Raghallaigh's don't need, it developed or are just sick and tired of their grounds being the county's and the site is not fit for purpose why oh why did planning proceed never mind funding secured. I am sure some of the mid Louth clubs with good links to the M1 would have happily signed up to purchase additional land and partner up as required to create a county ground which is fit for purpose. The ones that spring to mind are Stabannon, Naomh Mairtins, Lannleire, Ardee St.Marys and O'Connells. All the clubs mentioned already have great facilities in place some already have the additional land required for additional pitches to cater for their club when county takes priority. I wonder was any of these clubs even consulted because based on your comment below I get the ominous feeling that this is a case of trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Any County board wishing to redevelop its County grounds have to agree to make a contribution to the development, This is fair and established practice and generally Counties simply get on with it when the situation becomes absolutely necessary. Louth County board have not fundraised in over 10 years now and they have opted to simply levy the clubs and run a balanced current account which in some ways is commendable. The DKIT proposal did not go ahead because Louth County Board would not agree to make a contribution along with the agreed contributions of the College and Croke park and that is the simple truth around that matter, irrespective of the spin put on it by the County Board at the time. midlouther (Louth) - Posts: 6 - 31/08/2017 11:10:24 2041060 Link 1 |
All you have said above is accurate and truth but as far as I'm aware no club has said they aren't willing to pay for a county ground development . As I said previously I'm sure some other clubs would be more than willing to hold the prestigious title and foot a fair bill towards the project. Still the question is why have the plans proceeded when they seem to be a terrible fit for club and county? Our current county treasurer has said that he will have failed if the development has not begun by the time he steps down. Which I thought was a bold statement as I feel he is a great treasure and goes above and beyond in his diligence towards the counties finances, so to have his own words hanging over his years of dedicated service is something I hope he does not have to suffer. Why are we proceeding with plans for a grounds where there, as far as I can see, is bad relations between home club and county. I base that statement on the fact that the county has reported an outgoing on county ground maintenance that is by far less than what I know must of the championship ground clubs are spending on their own pitches and judging by the standard of the pitch I assume the home club feel this is a bill for the county to pick up. Also at club championship games in Drogheda there seems to be a lot less stewards from the host club, no one stewarding parking, little to no refreshments for match officials and at the last few finals I have noticed the County board has had to hire an external security firm as compared to finals in the Grove, Dunleer and Stabannon. I wonder is the cost of this security hire subtracted from the host club fee for use of the facilities or if the other clubs are given the additional fee for supplying stewards of their own. The GAA Grounds in Drogheda is a complete joke. It's the worse County Ground in the Country. Wee Louth supporters deserve better. OLLIE (Louth) - Posts: 12224 - 31/08/2017 15:29:05 2041206 Link 0 |
All joking aside (I know a part of us all would love if MR post came true), Ollie and MR or any of you other veteran listeners of the Louth grapevine. Was the integrative process of the development of a county ground, that was fit for purpose, ever explained to the clubs? Or was all the decisions for planning made behind closed doors? Did the clubs ever have to vote on anything related to planning? WheresDeBallBag (Louth) - Posts: 458 - 31/08/2017 22:23:48 2041396 Link 0 |
