Replying To 19616609:  "It was on LMFM sport this evening that County Manager is reviewing plan because some councillors had issues"
in the midst of a housing crisis they were never likely to agree to the cheap sale of land too easily, especially the year before local elections.

100% right aswell.

Houses first! Its a national emergency.

A GAA ground we dont "need" cant be given priority.

They will be too busy opening houses

What do they want to put houses next to Heinz Factory? Has anyone ever been near that place, smelly area from the factory. Also all that land not zoned as industrial/commerical?
There is a national crisis but not necessarily in Louth, this is for elections. 90 per cent of the crisis is in Dublin.

There wasn't much objections from them when the new stadium in Drogheda was announced.
In between Heinz and a sports complex would hardly be considered a prime residential location.
If they really want houses then there is loads of land available that is better serviced by existing infrastructure.
This is just our elected representatives trying to justify their existence.

A County ground in conjunction with a college that young people can aspire to play in or another affordable housing estate...................................

Democrat running a story that members of Louth County Council will vote next Monday on whether to approve the sale of the site to the GAA. Apparently objections that the site is being sold too cheap at €400k and some Drogheda based councilors also objecting.
This is the time to let your local representatives know how important this stadium is for the county and local parish politics should be put aside.

I have a bad feeling about this. I was down that way over the weekend and they should be happy to be getting 400k.
That area would never be suitable for residential development. They should take the money and renovate some of the hundreds of vacant houses in the county or fill some of the numerous craters on the roads.

It's mad situation because that piece of land has lay idle since time began, never any interest in it.these councillors are as useless as the guys in the Dail, they can't see the big picture.
They could block it and that land will lie there unused for another 100 years, generate no revenue just an idle field... Or sell it for the proposed amount and then in construction and materials that's jobs and money spent in the economy, and the finished product you have a lovely new Stadium. It's a no brainer but I'll tell you know I'm not confident at all.

What councillors or parties are objecting to the sale?

Sinn Féin are against it as are most Drogheda Councillors - whop weren't so concerned about use of public funds or property when proposed stadium for Drogheda United was agreed.

Correct me if I Am wrong but isn't Dundalk the official county town of Louth, so it wouldn't look put of place have the county grounds here, wasn't it the original home of Louth Football, think of was called the Athletic Grounds?
Anyway it shouldn't be a stumbling block

Hopefully our local councillors are being lobbied and reminded of the size of the GAA vote . The next local elections are on May 24th 2019.

I'm sure these results of the vote are disclosed are they? Because I would like to know who votes what way and I'll certainly remember when they come knocking on doors

Louth GAA finally get their act together, and are they going to be scuppered by petty politicians with parish pump politics?
