Subject to the planning application being approved, the first part of the development will consist of a seated stand, housing 4,448, opposite an 8,000 capacity terrace. With further development, 5,300 terraces can be accommodated at either end of the grounds. Overall, the potential capacity could rise to approximately 22,000. Fantastic news for the county last night. Finally we will have a county ground to be proud of. I hear the sub commitee that worked on it was full of the right poeople, in that i mean lots of experience in the building trade so know whats what. Hopefully we all get behind it and support it fully , do it right and dont cut corners. A stadium to proud of it, Lu Abu Gicker01 (Louth) - Posts: 80 - 11/09/2018 10:33:47 2140944 Link 0 |
Any word of where the income is coming from to pay for this? Will we actually try and fundraise for the 1st time in years or will we just start charging parents more to see 7 year olds play in Darver and tax the clubs an additional €200 per month regardless of their income or number of members./ LemonySnickett (Louth) - Posts: 88 - 11/09/2018 10:55:11 2140950 Link 0 |
I don't think it has been bought yet as apparently no price has yet been agreed. Assume the land may be provided by LCC free of charge, not sure what DKIT will want in exchange for their piece of land. Great progress made to date by the committee lead by the County Treasurer, let's hope they can bring this to a conclusion asap. Drogexile (Louth) - Posts: 79 - 11/09/2018 12:22:55 2140988 Link 0 |
The rumour going around the Bull is if Gavin Duffy gets elected as president he will fund the stadium himself.

I wonder is it possible for clubs to come together and create their own leagues?

Is it not the case the the U13 league starts late because it is the norm that 13 year old's play U14 for their clubs in that league and championship earlier in the season. There are only a few clubs who could field separate U13 and U14 teams. Great news on the Grounds. No doubt a long way to go with this but like all things the devil will be in the detail. Wouldn't it be great if he was there for the opening of the new Pairc during his first year in office. In 2019 it will be 60 years since The Athletic Grounds - also called The Irelanders field by the Gaelic fraternity- in Dundalk was taken from us by grey men who caused a lot of dissension in the area. It was a slow wheel turning. The GAA suffered a lot. I think the Irelanders were out for a while. Now for the big step forward. C 19616609 (Louth) - Posts: 1683 - 12/09/2018 00:32:43 2141137 Link 0 |
A reality tv "celeb" with an ego to match as President ??? No thanks '61. Provided the stadium is built I would far rather see it opened by some of our own . Frank Lynch and Kevin Beahan opening it together would be special .

Paddy Keenan should be involved in the opening of it.

Take it easy man I was only responding to Ollie's rumour re funding and the time issue. The plans are there now so we need to get them a reality asap. Every President and a lot of others have egos. I hope we have none on this forum. Finally Itsme I think Paddy Keenan might be the first to get Joe Ward in the new field. I'm sure he would be very happy with that. 19616609 (Louth) - Posts: 1683 - 12/09/2018 20:28:38 2141303 Link 0 |

Its time to cast the net wide for funding support. Sponsor a stand, sponsor a seat or sponsor the whole lot. I feel sometimes we are too proud to look for money from sources other than the old reliables. The group have done an unbelievable job in 8 weeks, the momentum they have generated needs to be maintained. Hopefully the diaspora, multinationals etc will help fund this. Previous developments were to be funded 50% from Croke Park so you would hope this would still be the case. I'd love to see some Louth heroes, like the late Charlie McAllister for example, honoured in some way at the new ground. AC (None) - Posts: 318 - 13/09/2018 09:12:28 2141344 Link 0 |
There are plenty of people deserving of recognition. Charlie McAllister top of the list! The man has an annual bursary in his name that he left for distribution when he passed. I think he should get recognition on a new stadium, even if poor Charlie would have wanted it in Drogheda! LU.ABU (Louth) - Posts: 120 - 13/09/2018 15:03:58 2141473 Link 0 |
