Replying To GAAdundalk:  "And I hate being a pessimist.i will glady work for free on it with a shovel on Saturdays and Sunday's if it meant finally getting a place to call home, a place to be proud off.
Fair play to the men involved and hopefully they get it over the line."

And remember money could be made from this as well, imagine having a venue that could potentially hold a concert or something similar.great chance at generating revenue

Big victory for North Louth. I am absolutely disgusted in the Gaels of South Louth who have allowed us to lose out on the county ground. As a south louth man i really feel unwanted within the county the last decade or so.

As a Drawda man part of me is sad that the county grounds is leaving the north rd but on the other hand I am delighted that after all these decades wee can finally get a home ground that wee can be proud of it. I don't mind where bout's in the county the GAA Home grounds is just as long as wee have a decent ground that wee can call home. The only thing is I will miss about the Rats pitch is going in to Mr King in the Clubhouse before and after the match for my pints of Stout.

Will ye cop on. 99% of Louth gaels will be delighted with this move. If this goes ahead it will be fantastic for the county. If you ever attended Louth games you would know the same faces attend home games all the time. There are not too many South Louth faces at these games. Some from Blues, Collon, Martins, Tones, Nicks, plunks and Raghs. But no more than 150 -200 at each league game. I will miss the post match pints and match discussions in the Raghs bar, but overall it will be better for football.

I am not. We are also the only county with two centres of population density who are not treated as equals, that is down to the strong involvement of North Louth at committee level. Fair play to the North Louth Gaels who pounced as soon as the Rats dropped the ball and have moved Louths county grounds to Dundalk.
In the last decade Drogheda lost its strong underage leagues, the u12 blitz and now the county grounds. The south louth gaels of the last decade have let generations down.

Well look the ground has been marked for development for 40 years...how long must one wait.it shouldn't be north v south, again it's so small everybody knows people in both towns, do you think people from South Dublin care that Croker is in North Dublin. It's still Dublin.
Yes nice having it on your doorstep out of convience but again it's 20 mins either way. I took my young son to Louth game at the start of the year, and it was so deplorable what happened due to the facilities I swore I'd never step foot inside that place again.
This north v south bickering by individuals such as yourself is what's held the county back, a true Louth Gael would be delighted.

Louth played a few of their league matches at home at the Hill in the years 2007 and 2008.

Firstly it's great to see progress being made and also that it's not the club share option which will never work. Secondly O Raghallaighs didn't drop the ball, they made the correct decision for their club.
Let's all now row in behind the county board and the clubs as this project will now need to be funded and the clubs can't take any more levies.
We must be the only county where money flows up from the clubs rather than down from GAA HQ.

You know SFA if you think the Raghs dropped the ball. Neither Blues, Nicks, Tones etc in Drogheda would have behaved any differently. But you are correct about the street leagues an U12s etc. We need to introduce our own town leagues again.

From the 1950s until the 80s or 90s Drogheda,Ardee and Dundalk each had one league game every year. From 1959 the Dundalk game was played in Dowdallshill. We beat Dublin there in the 60s.
For a small club The Dowdallers gave great service to the County. Ownie Rogers RIP was one of their great men in getting that field.

Even in the early noughties wee played some of our league matches in Ardee. Wee beat Kerry there in the league to make it back to back wins. Wee also beat them down in the Kingdom when they were then All Ireland Champions.

joej...about time someone brought this up..its time the cumann's were brought back.

Under 7,8,9,10, 11 and 12 should return to the Drogheda league, mid-louth league and north louth league. this in when underage football was at its best. you now have a situation where its easier for clubs to not turn up and just train instead.
Cut back on the travel on parents and keep it local

Great news tonight that the 12 acre site has been bought in Dundalk following a unanimous decision, Aidan Berrill will be on LMFM tomorrow morning at 08:20 to talk about the project. Let's hope this is a county grounds we can be proud of folks

Fully agree itslouth

Take for example this years U12s in the county. They are next years U13s. The U13 league starts on The 1st week of August. That means all of the U12s in the county will have no football next year until August 2019. Bring back the local leagues, the soccer lads will be clapping their hands. The lack of local leagues in drogheda, dundalk etc is one of the causes of the awful state of Louth football.
