Gaelic grounds development

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It has been recently announced that Croke park has given the green light to develop the Gaelic grounds. If the development was to go ahead in the near future, has the size of the pitch been considered for upsizing? Is it just coincidence that we perform better on larger and better surfaces? Also I hope that the new development won't just be a bigger stand and some concrete to stand on instead of grass. Included should be proper toilet facilities, wheelchair area that's appropriate and to required standards, proper seating (imagine having a back to the seat), area for shop etc.

I would prefer they concentrated on improving the surface rather than enlarging it it is awful ground to play on

The upgrading of the pitch must be the priority but surely funding will be available for a total development to give a capacity of at least 10,000 and hopefully 15.000. We don't want Mickey Mouse restrictions of 4,000. We're these ever challenged?

Why would we need a ground with at least 10000 to 15000 when only 2000 to 3000 show up for games?

For championship matches if wee were playing Meath or Dublin at home.

Yes 10000 would have to be the minimum. Should be something we can be proud of.too much in this county do we put ourselves down. Small county mentality, but we have a a big enough population do we not compared to some counties. We need a bit of pride , its a great sporting county in my opinion with Football, hurling , soccer and rugby all played to name the big ones

Well said GAAdundalk. Its a great county full stop. We have the wonderful Carlingford, the Cooley mountains, plenty of beaches, the two biggest towns, the tallest Celtic Cross in the country at monasterboice, plenty of great pubs including the Bull. Say it loud and say it proud. Up the Wee County!

I presume there have been no more developments on this.
Division 2 next year again with the worst county ground in the country.

Maybe that's exactly what's needed. When is enough enough? Should the clubs and supporters organize a protest or something of that nature.or are we just going to give out about it on a forum or talk about it in a pub over a pint? Unless action is taken that the county board have to acknowledge it and gets some wheels in motion.although as a location the Gaelic Grounds is just terrible for traffic but it looks like it will have to do

Field not marked - lime lost
Back gate not opened- key lost
Armagh lost
Sligo lost
Time to get out before everything is lost

I couldn't believe that a referee in inter county football can let a game go ahead when there was no lines.

I thought the grass was on the long side alright.
The players hate it, the management hate it and its not that great for the fans either.
We must be the only team that prefer playing away from home. So much for home 'advantage'.

€9m redevelopment of Pairc Tailteann makes for depressing reading. County board need to get their finger out. If the O'Raghallaighs are holding things up and they have every right do so given it is their club ground, the county board need to look at other options. Being tied to this location is based on very little infrastructure as nearly everything needs redevelopment. I have no problem with the location but things need to start happening. The GAA hierarchy cannot be let off here either, the money they have pledged elsewhere on massive undertakings completely outweighs what would be needed here in Louth to put a county ground in place!
