Understand Westmeath supporters frustration and blame game for only drawing with LOWLY CARLOW.! novalis (Carlow) - Posts: 320 - 06/02/2017 15:50:23 1952819 Link 1 |
Carlow best team in div 4? Are you mad I wouldn't put them in the top 4. We need to go all out to get a result in Gaelic grounds put out our best team and we will come away with 2 points.

Why are Carlow fans on here trying to convince everyone that Carlow are great and that it should be a privilege to even draw with such a stellar side.

We've been through a few managers now and it the same story. We just dont have the talent and i'm sorry but i dont think a change of manager is going to make any difference. I mean not 1 Westmeath player, with either the County or a College has made the Hogan Stand Team of the Week this year. That is not good as i'm pretty sure they would reward a player from a lesser light than one of the top dogs. To a man we are not playing well or showing there is sufficient quality available to us for a promotion push.

Please point out to me one fan, just one on here pointing out that,"Carlow are great" and that it should be a privilege to even draw with such a stellar side. Imo, there is no team anyone could call great in div 4, I don't know who brought privilege and stellar into it, that's for another day perhaps. The two favourites to get promoted, Westmeath and Wexford have yet to be beaten, so nothing has changed, - - - at the moment. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3282 - 08/02/2017 10:40:25 1953553 Link 0 |
Hoganstand team of the week is more political then factual so I wouldn't worry about that.

Have to disagree Meridean. We don't have the talent to compete at division 1 and division 2 that's for sure but we are certainly good enough for division 3 and 4. When we throw the shackles off like the 2nd half performances against Mayo last year and Meath 2 years ago we look really good. I think the management team is restricting the players with tactics and positioning. Also there is an over emphasis on weight training in Westmeath, all our lads are in great shape but when it comes to the games most of them cant kick a ball. Did you see the article on the Louth manager and his approach to training ?, its very interesting, its on Joe.ie. They concentrate on the skills of the game instead of spending hours in the gym.

the westmeath players do too much unsupervised and programmed gym work. suns out, guns out proper gym work should be programmed and monitored by a coach to be honest, you should be able to get a team 80% fit for county football just using gym sessions with the proper anaerobic and meta conditioning thrown in training sessions on the field should then concentrate on the skills of the game - kick passing, shooting, movement manfromdelmonte (UK) - Posts: 541 - 08/02/2017 16:31:41 1953697 Link 1 |

Its bad when we can recall the good performances cos they are so few and far between. I think you will find we are not good enough for Div 3. Div 4 is our level and my own prediction is that we will not get out of this Div this year.

What's the point of weight training if you are able to be knocked out of the way like in the Carlow match. Jack_Sparrow (Westmeath) - Posts: 1057 - 09/02/2017 20:12:09 1954168 Link 1 |
Spot on! The Meath and Mayo games were as much about the opposition taking the foot off as about our own performance. Who will remember or care about losing to Mayo in a Qualifier outside of Westmeath? We focus too much on bigging up small rays of light and moral victories in this county rather than looking at reality and making a genuine effort to improve things.

Just saw the team for Limerick and it has struck me just how much we chop and change our forwards game in game out. The same names appearing on and off the bench or in different forward positions. There is no consistency in our team selections or a player commanding a starting position. I see John Egan has gone from corner back to a forward now, Corroon is back off the bench (again) and the other forwards are literally on a positional merry-go-round. I mean apart from Heslin, the other 5 forwards could have been placed in any of the other forward positions, or the bench, and nobody would have questioned it such is the chopping and changing of players. That isnt a dig a management though as i mentioned above, nobody is making any position their own. Meridian (Westmeath) - Posts: 699 - 10/02/2017 11:35:43 1954312 Link 0 |
I'm also very surprised Gaughan isn't starting. What's the story with Alex Gardiner? He made a big impact off the bench against Louth in the O'Byrne cup. Matthew (None) - Posts: 1095 - 10/02/2017 17:34:31 1954476 Link 0 |
