Jim - Calling Jim....
The tail end of your classic post mentioned ( I think ) the ability of Wexford men to cause an upset and your disappearance has certainly caused one. Did you have a feed of that ould "champ" that you alluded to on top of the couple of pints? Always stick to the chips at night as that champ is hard digested.
Hope you are in top form and that you return asap to claim your award - I think Jayo is preparing a suitable scroll.

Folks in Jim's absence, I think its important to point out that the following sentence isn't distorted by Author Guinness as many of you expect. This sentence I refer to is from the old Yola dialect which was commonly used in the south regions of Wexford.

"To rspone about dual counties there is Wexford, Cork, Galway Dublin & Offaly anfter vnone that copete and are capable of causing an upset" meaning
I
n response to dual counties, there is Wexford, Cork, Galway Dublin and Offaly which are the only ones that compete and are capable of causing an upset

Any of you history buffs will be aware that the first colonists to Ireland were the Normans and lived in the south region of Wexford know as the Forth and Bargy. These were followers of Strongbow, and of Robert Fitzstephens, who landed in Wexford during the month of May 1169. The Annals of the Four Masters, (compiled 1632/36) mention that amongst these were '70 Flemings in their Coats of Mail' led by Fitzstephens. Up to the 15th century the surnames most predominant in the Baronies were: Roche, Meyler, Barry, Walsh, Carew, Hay, Stacpoole, Russell, Barrett, Keating Banville, Rossitor etc.
The strange dialect of the Forth and Bargy inhabitants eventually became known as Yola (meaning 'old'). It included numerous words and phrases assimilated from other languages - notably, from the Irish tongue (then widely spoken throughout Wexford), and from cross - channel traders (e.g. Manx and Flemish),

The Yola dialect should be spoken slowly. The vowels in words of one syllable are usually 'drawled' or prolonged e.g. caake (cake), coorn (corn), gooun (gun), maate (meat), chourch (church), nieght (night).

Now try these - Days : mondei, tuesdei, wennesdei, thorsdei, vreedei, zatherdei, zindei

Numbers : oan, twye, dhree, vowre, veeve, zeese, zeven, aught, ween, dhen.

There's a lot of snow on the ground today. = Aar's a dole o'sneow apa greoune to die.

How are you today? = How yarthe to die?

Cheers, Hele an greve apa thee! (",)

I believe Jim is now doing the circuit. The A.A. have him (not the road crowd) and are taking him around schools and youth clubs informing young people of the dangers of drink. Poor Jim is on display i.e. "Children if you drink to excess you could end up like this poor man".

Hope Jim makes it back !!!
