Rory Lavelle is from Inishbofin & plays his club football with Renvyle due to numbers. He is a past pupil of St. Mary's College Galway where he played colleges football & has played U21 for Galway. Great Senior debut today keeping a clean sheet.

I've no doubt that after winning Connacht last year there will be bigger crowds at the games this year, as is always the case a bit of success brings out the support. Galway football supporters seem to be some of the most 'fair weather' around. Support at matches in the past few years has been poor and this is an indictment on the Galway football community. Maybe it is because we have known great success in the relatively recent past (98 and 01), or maybe it is because we have other sports such as rugby and soccer that we can support.

But I ask you what kind of a GAA fan only supports their team when they're winning all Irelands? A team as important to the county as the Galway footballers should be supported in the bad times as well as the good, as is the case in many other counties. There is now very good reason to believe that a period of 'bad' for Galway football is turning into a much more promising period.

I would encourage all Galway football supporters from all over the county to come out for the league games as well as the championship games this year, starting with Pearse Stadium on 5th Feb vs Cork. For God's sake we are the third most successful county in the country and we have a promising young team with talent who are under good management, they could do big things in the coming years. They do the county proud and deserve good Galway support!!

I'd say it is a bit of everything. Other options in Galway, bad weather, bad results. Facilities are not great either. Last year there was no team released until the last minute.

The official website is rubbish. No panel list, no details, nothing. Only info you get is on this message board and you never know if it is fact or opinion!

No PR for team either. Any interviews seem to be driven by promoting a product (nothing wrong with that) or by media chasing interview. No one from Galway GAA driving the agenda.

Basically if you want to know how to get crowds to your games do the opposite to what Galway do!

I agree Mayonman. The official website is a disgrace. Although I have to say that Tribesmen GAA and the Galway footballers facebook pages are excellent, regular updates on news and clips, we'd be lost without them.

The thing is successful Co. Boards manage their affairs like a business. John Costello Dublin is the perfect example. Their is joined up thinking and good links between club and Co. Board. The executive is particularly good at managing its finances. They are always looking to invest in grounds/clubs/players/officials. If you were to ask our geniuses what a balance sheet is - they would probably think it was a computer print out of an NCT result....?

I have to say I think there is serious potential with the footballers. We have got some pride back last year and that seems to have sparked a bit more interest especially with up and coming players. Some of the young guys are very talented and the key to them making the top level or not is how much work they put in now between 20-23 age group.

There are no guarantees and there will be setbacks. If they are to achieve anything they will need to drive through when they hit a speed bump and keep working hard.

Well I'd like to think we're going in the direction albeit not at the quickest pace. First of all promotion to Div 1 is essential although I suspect some counties will treat the league more seriously than ourselves and blow up come Championship time like Cavan & Roscommon last year. The panel looks to be stronger but we will missing the Corofin boys for a few games during the league if not the majority if they beat Crokes.
