While it's good to see more competition within the squad, the importance of some of these returnees can be overstated. Armie is back in, largely courtesy of a good performance in the county final; he was never a prolific scorer at intercounty level. Similarly O'Curraoin and Duane, while probably as good as what is there now anyway, never tore up too many trees in county colours before. On the flip side, a good contingent of Corofin players, (Mike Farragher in current form particularly), should rejuvenate the squad (as long as KW has the sense and patience to hold on to them), while it's good to see McHugh and Daly from M/M there too, even if the latter has to learn to manage his discipline. Would like to see Eoin Finnerty from the same club there also, if he could put his injury woes behind him. Not sure why Wyndham from Carraroe is there, didn't look anything special at U-21 level. Does anyone have a complete list of the current squad? or could anyone take a stab at one? Rocky.Road (Galway) - Posts: 376 - 08/12/2016 13:33:26 1939057 Link 0 |
Massive plus to have all those players back in competing for a place in the first 15. It will be a difficult job to keep everyone happy. Hopefully Walsh does the business. morewater (Galway) - Posts: 7 - 08/12/2016 14:12:54 1939068 Link 0 |
Glad to have Lundy, Army and OC back for 17. Goal is to get promotion, and with the club semi in Feb keeping the Corofin lads busy we will need all hands on deck, great psychological boost for Galway.

Good to see new players being brought in and the returning players should add more competition for places, this should lead to a stronger team Gaagodeo (Galway) - Posts: 50 - 08/12/2016 23:39:33 1939162 Link 0 |

It's going to be hard to pick a midfield / forwards 8 from the following: Rocky.Road (Galway) - Posts: 376 - 09/12/2016 13:08:16 1939234 Link 0 |
You forgot Michael Day (Headford) who would be my first name for the middle of the field and Michael Daly and Barry Mc Hugh in the forwards. Three or four of the above named won't make the cut this year. Can't see O Griofa back for a while. He hasn't play with MB and ha just finished his Garda training in Templemore.

That might be the FBD team minus the NUIG, GMIT and Corofin players. You have also excluded the best free taker in the county of the deck Peter Cooke.

Lots of campaigning on here for the same lads all the time, heaping plenty of pressure & expectation on them & unfairly so. When you go to matches you see what's what & some lads have yet to do it, when watching games the best free taker in the county off the floor is Jason Leonard by a mile who has proven it in big games & under pressure. He is also a two footed footballer. That for me is the key, skill & both feet & a good head. He has done it & doesn't need to prove it.He mightn't get a go though as it will be said that there are too many Corofin lads. Shouldn't matter of course but this is Galway, helps to be on the inside line, perhaps if he transferred to a particular club west of the river.

moc.dna have to disagree with you boss, a big fan of Leonard and read my post on the county final, possibly the first person to point out he takes frees with both feet. First impressed with him at Tuam/ Corofin league game in 2015. If you have been following this forum closely you will have noted that Pope has accused me of Corofin love in . But the best free taker off the deck in the county is Peter Cooke.

Lads I'm just wondering is Tadhg Kennelly sniffing around ye'r minor and u21 players ? KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 11/12/2016 01:59:17 1939474 Link 0 |
if he is itself best of luck to them. let them go and most will come back with a year or 2 of pro level training and a physique to match. And for the odd one that stays gone that only acts as inspiration to younger gaa players to work hard. I know what i am saying is of no consolation to a small club that loses its star player. But you will lose more to relocation's for college/jobs and life stuff than you ever will to Australia. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1928 - 12/12/2016 12:07:26 1939663 Link 1 |
excellent point, we have lost lads to alcoholism, depression, etc etc no issue if lads have free will to tryout another continent for a while
