Socks - Up or Down?

Sometimes they will make a small bit of effort and cut the top off the original Gaelic sock but most of the time it's just a plain white or as close to the club colours as they can find.

I know some makes of sock can be loose and poorly fitting but is it a fashion statement more so than a practical one?

I'd love to get all your opinions.. I'm hoping to break into the sock market ;)"

lads who never got a clip from an auld lad go around with their socks up. agricultural, hardy lads go around wit them down. lets face it every man in the GAA world thinks he's tough as auld boots.

I have to say that socks up is a pet hate of mine. In a day and age when 99% of players are wearing the midi short socks anybody who goes around wearing them up is just looking for attention and looks extremely pretentious.
No need for it at all.

Socks up when I scored 4 pts from play, socks down when I couldnt hit the side of Des Kelly carpets after 45 minutes play.

So yeah, socks down for the most part.

We should be looking forward to the All Ireland final this weekend but instead we are on here discussing socks up or down, off topic but it just seems wrong to me, club Championships aren't that far ahead of the old system up here anyway,
Anyway to join the debate, def socks down but proper football socks, hate to see those wee white socks on players, to me that would be a target,
I think in the old days we used to wear shin guards, hated those things but they prevented a lot of bruises no doubt.

Ankle socks only. Those long socks are for shinpad wearing soccer heads.

When I started following gaa in the 70 s most players wore the socks up and the very few that did nt stood out.Brian Mullins wore socks down a fair bit in his early days and Bobby Doyle and i think Nudie Hughes of Monaghan.Years later its cooler (pardon the punn) to wear them down.Players that wear them up stick out like Bernard Brogan David Moran Ciaran McDonald.It doesnt matter to me but maybe wear socks up for the parade and natonal Anthem and then do whatever.Once the socks match who cares.Nothing worse as a forward to see a big mountain man of a back coming towards you with different coloured socks hands like shovels and a spar bag for his gear.
