Shefflin was a superb player. I've watched hurling a long time and my favourites were Christy Ring, Babs Keating, Tony Wall, Mick Roche, Ray Cummins and Tony Doran. Rockies (Cork) - Posts: 947 - 28/03/2015 18:32:29 1707320 Link 0 |

Shefflin was consistently excellent,Mr Reliable for Kilkenny and his club.A truly great hurler. But to say he was the best ever is stretching things a bit I feel. Condorman (Dublin) - Posts: 983 - 29/03/2015 12:19:11 1707609 Link 0 |
Tipp beat Kilkenny in 1964 all ireland 5-13 to 2-8. They were a truly dominant team of that era. The game now is faster, lighter sliotar, more rules...but i think Tipp of 1964 would beat KK of 2007. Rockies (Cork) - Posts: 947 - 29/03/2015 12:50:07 1707629 Link 0 |
Shefflin did have the advantage of being a great player on a great team. Rockies (Cork) - Posts: 947 - 29/03/2015 13:23:14 1707653 Link 0 |
Henry was unbelievable but as he himself admits a lot of what gave him greatness was through hard work and practise. It's hard to define greatness but I wouldn't say he was naturally brilliant in the way DJ Carey was. Leaving aside the three Galway JC's Connolly, Cooney and Canning because I'm somewhat biased anyway I'd have Frank Cummins (the KK version) JBM, DJ and Brian Whelehan ahead of him in terms of natural flair, technique and ability.
